I miscalculated and cut 250+ rectangles 3" x 5" instead of 2 3/4" by 5" (for flying geese - the size decision is a long story). Should I take a deep sigh and cut them ALLLLLLLL down ... or find another way to use them as-is? I have my heart set on a scrappy flying geese, but now I'm discouraged. I drew out an easy pattern for the as-is bricks (columns - one vertical bricks, one horizontal bricks, both with sashing between) and I'm OK with that, but that's not how I started this project. What to do?

Adjust your geese to use these.

I am not sure what they call it but I have a quilt on my bed that I made with a brick wall type pattern. It was quick and easy and looks great. :) Don't get discouraged. It has happened to me too. I usually have to step away from it and come back to it later. :)

Sometimes it helps me to walk away for a short time.

Walk away for a few days, consider your two options and whatever you decide is right. I call these learning experiences and I have had quite a few- some that REALLY teach a lesson and some that have sparked some creativity.

Check out Bonnie Hunters site. She uses different size charms. If her's size is not exactly your size, try it anyway. I did once and it worked out fine. I didn't cut that 1/2" off all my charms.

Put the first square right in the corner of the rectangle & sew your diagonal. Place the second square a quarter of an inch in from the other edge and sew your diagonal. When you trim those little extra triangles, you will trim off the extra 1/4 inch too. Try this on a couple & and see how it works.

At least they are just a little bit too big and you can cut them down. I recently cut a ton of rectangles like you but they were all a 1/2 inch too short :( Personally I would end up cutting them all down. That would be the only way that I would be happy. I would want them "right." And they are mostly already cut. So it will take a lot less time than it did the first time around.
