Dull Cutter Blades

Have any of you ever had problems with the carpet replacement blades for cutters? I bought 10 of them. I opened four of them and all four are so dull. Am I doing something wrong or do some blades come less than sharp sometimes? I will try some of the other blades to see if they will cut. I bought them from Harbour Freight.

Send them back with a complaint. I've been getting my carpet blades from Harbor Freight for a long time, and I've always gotten super sharp blades, sharper than anything else I could buy. This must be a mistake, as I know other quilters who always get their blades from Harbor Freight, and are always pleased. You got a bad batch, that's all. Have them replaced, then see how you like them.

I agree. Take em back. Try again!

Yep! Send them back!

I've seen for sale a rotary blade sharpener. Anyone have experience with one? Recommend?

You do realize there are 2 blades in the pack, right? You may have both of them in your cutter and they won't cut hot butter together.... Also, check your mat, if it is worn any the blades won't work well then either.... (ask me how I know these things....)

I second this! Just be SUPER careful when you try to get them apart! I have more trouble with these on my white Dritz mat than on my green Olfa one.

Heard harbour freight is stopping selling the blades. Anyone else hear that?

If you opened 4 packages, that should be 8 blades....not 4....are you using 2 together?

Oh dear! I wonder why since they were such good sellers. I just looked on their website and they are still selling them.

What are carpet blades used for? They kinda look like rotary cutter blades. If they are what size do they fit? Thanks

Stitchnripper 11-20-2011 04:12 PM

I use them in my 45 mm cutters. I have several brands of cutters.

The same thing happened to me. I bought them when they were on sale awhile back, and they would not cut butter.
I still have them. Probably I should send them back also. I too tried about four packs and then gave up. I was very disappointed because everyone said they were great.
By the way, I do know that there are two in the package, so that was not the problem.

I bought some from Harbor Freight also and found that they were dull.

Learner747 11-20-2011 05:01 PM

I know there are two in a pack and I had my husband check them, also. I purchased five packs of them and opened two packs which would be four blades. Do you think I should try the other blades before I send them back?
