Dumb, Dumb, Dumb!
I feel so stupid. I finally got back to a wall handing that I was doing an applique boat scene on and finished the appliqué tonight. With that all done I went and did the basting with the batting and backing. Not until I got all the basting done did I realize that I had not put the borders on yet. The borders had been hanging on the design wall for months. So after spending an hour basting it all, I cut it all off! But that's not all....... I cut down the backing fabric because it was too big for the appliquéd portion and now it is too small after I put the borders on. Oh my! Time to go to bed I guess. LOL Like I said, Dumb, Dumb, Dumb. :(

We've all had days like this. A solution will come to you tomorrow.
Been there, done that. I feel your pain. I'm sure you will figure out a solution.
:o we've all been there at one time or another.
I agree with Tartan, we have all done this at least one time. Hope you got a good night sleep and are ready to tackle and get this cute quilt finished.
I hope you've had a good night's rest. Piecing the backing won't be a problem.
That is so easy to do. I'm sure you are not dumb. You just forgot that step. Several easy fixes so all is not lost.
I have done that so many times I can't even count, I'm sure it can be fixed.
Not dumb, just preoccupied! Just add something to the back...after all it's the BACK of a wallhanging!
Quilt the hanging and add the borders and backing as if it was meant to be a quilt as you go project. Design decision.
We all do it! Yesterday my husband was in my sewing room changing lights and yaking at me..I put the borders on the front of the quilt that was supposed to be on the backing..looks good so I just made the backing bigger! If you change it up it just becomes a personal design choice!
You're not dumb. We all have those moments that we say "I canNOT believe I just did that!". I prefer to think of it as intellectual overload. :)
Thank you everyone. Sounds like this boat is pretty crowded. LOL All is not lost. The backing will be pieced to fit and the wall hanging will be hung. Kicked myself into bed last night and up early this morning to fix everything. Words of encouragement were welcome.

It sound like you are just really anxious to see your finished quilt. Take a breath, get some sleep and move ahead. You will be fine, you will finish this quilt and I can only imagine that it will be beautiful example of your quilting skills.
Oh my! Been there-done that! It'll get better though.
Been there. Done that. Usually happens to me when I am tired and should not be trying to do anything that requires a brain.
Bummer! Bet that won't happen again!
Sometimes..our minds do not keep with our hands..lol..as others have said..we all have things like this happen..you will figure it out..we all have faith in u..
Funny! I do dumb stuff in quilting all the time. I just shrug and either forget it or fix it.
Just add borders to the backing...it will look just fine. Pretty sure that we have all had a moment or two like this...
We've all been there...........just human. As you found out, things look better in the morning when you are refreshed. Good luck, all is not lost.
Mistakes like this, which we've all made, is why fabric stores still sell fabric. More than once I've gone back to buy more of what I've just cut wrong or otherwise messed up......or because I changed my mind at the last minute.
Everything is "fixable" after a good night's sleep! |
You are not alone, been there, done that. Tomorrow is another day and you might just come up with a fantastic solution. You're not dumb, just tired.
You could also add the borders using the QAYG method. No one will ever know! Good luck with it. :)
