Dumb question from newbie - DH?

This is really dumb, I know, but I'm new at all this quilt lingo... what does DH stand for? I gather from context that it's a husband/partner, but what's it stand for?

QuiltingHaven 08-01-2013 02:02 PM

It is cellphone speak for "Dear Husband"

PABerard 08-01-2013 02:41 PM

Or, depending on the post, dam husband
And it isn't dumb, we've all been there and been stumped.

and GD=granddaughter. SIL=son in law, DIL=daughter in Law. ggl= giggle. join in the live chat too. It's fun and the folks are from all over the place, literally. Welcome Newbie. Glad you chose quilting.

nativetexan 08-01-2013 02:54 PM

I always take that one as Dear Heart.

MadQuilter 08-01-2013 03:14 PM

DH for me is Darling Husband. Sometimes you will see it as Not-so-DH. lol

SueSew 08-01-2013 03:20 PM

D%^& Husband? Hadn't heard that one.

I'm in window work and DH means "double hung" sashes.

Oh dear let's not combine the meanings.

Designated hitter in the American League. I prefer OF for what I live with. Old Fart.

The d usually refers to "Dear" Husband, S-Son, DIL-SIL Daughter-in-Law, Son-in Law, Sister-in-Law, etc.
You usually can decipher wwho is being referenced by the conversation.
Happy Quilitn, Susan

Dear Husband! DGS = dear grandson, etc. Welcome to the board!

slicksister 08-02-2013 09:22 AM

And it's not just quilter talk. Those terms are used on pretty much any chat room or message board.

Love this one!! I live with an OF also. In fact, I could probably be considered an OF!! I too am new to quilting and was having a problem with all the abbreviations and stumbled across the list. I have even saved it on my computer so I can refer to it as often as I need to. You would think after working for the federal government for 30+ years I would be able to figure them out!! I am just not up to date with the "cellphone-ese"!! Know a few of them, but not many!!

grandme26 08-03-2013 06:05 AM

somewhere there is a thread of alot of the abbreviations used. I thought I had it bookmarked.

nhweaver 08-03-2013 06:05 AM

Oh yeah! It is all in the interpretations!!!

I was once told: "There are no dumb questions, just dumb answers." I agree that there are no dumb questions, but on this board, you get great answers! Love OF response!! Have to remember that, but I am an OF, so I will probably forget! lol

BYW (grin) there is no such thing as a dumb question. This question was useful to a lot of people.
