Duvet and quilting help
I pieced a king size duvet top for my DDIL. I am thinking I need to put a layer of muslin (or something thin like a sheet) inside to protect the 1/4" seams from wear and tear. since it is king, it is already big and will be heavy if I do too much...If I do this, it would be 3 layers of fabric (top, middle and back). Do you think I can just add the back, and no middle layer? Any one else made a duvet from a pieced top?
Thanks for the help. |
i'm not really following you- but when i made one for my daughter i pieced a top, lightweight batting & a muslin backing- then finished it up with the 'duvet' back- sewn around 3 sides,(the top of the back is longer- folds over the top) (right sides together) turned right side out- top stitched around the edges- finished the fold part with buttons, button holes. came out great. her backing was pinwhale corduroy (her choice) so it is kind of heavy-but she loves it & it really turned out very nice...expensive looking...

If I were making one I would definitely line it with muslin and do some quilting to keep
the top layer and the muslin together. Then add the backing. |
I suggest Quilters Dream Select batting with a very lightweight muslin backing then some light quilting

I would definitely back the top with fabric - maybe not muslin, but a coordinating solid so that when you see the inside it would look more finished. Then add the backing fabric.

I just did this. I sewed the top to a king sized sheet (wrong side of top tp sheet. Then sewed that piece to a fleece backing (DS request. I added ribbons on the bottom to tie it shut.

So no down comforter inside? I was thinking with the comforter and the three layers it would be too much. Looks like every one thinks it needs the muslin or something for sure! |
