DWR Border ?
 

A friend brought me a DWR quilt she wants a border put on it . Can this be done
and does anyone know how I would cut one to sew around all the curves?

I have seen them, but I would think that adding the border would be difficult. I am also not sure it would improve the appearance of the quilt.

She wants it a little larger and has no more of the fabric as someone in her family made it years ago.

I made my son's with a large border. I just appliqued on the scallops onto the fabric used for the border.

Yup, that's all you have to do. Applique the scallops onto wide strips of fabric. In addition to adding a border, you get the benefit of not having to bind curves!

dakotamaid What a great idea. And the way the border was done, it adds to the quilt and doesn't detract from it. I think it adds a new dimension to the DWR

This border actually came about because the kids told me they had a double when they actually had a queen bed. Ooops, I had to scramble with finding more fabric and figuring out how to make it look like it was intended that way all along.

I just saw one beautifully done. The repair quilter measured the for the widest part of what she would need to add to the DWR quilt edge. She cut the new border fabric and starched it. Then she basted the edge of the old quilt around the scallops and removed the binding, put the new border on top of that, pinned it RST, and sewed around the scallops with the scallops facing up on her machine. It looked great. She finished with trimming the new border at the old scallops and bound with bias fabric binding.

It was really neat.
