Is anyone familiar with the E Z Winder? It is not a bobbin winder, it winds regular is spools of thread from the large cones of thread. If anyone knows about this- is it good? Is it worth buying?

I am not familiar with this.

here is a link to the device http://not-just-threads.com/item_114/E-Z-Winder.htm and here http://www.allbrands.com/products/abp17020.html
there don't seem to be many reviews of the product. however, one different site was talking about the EZ bobbin Winder and users were having troubles with it. from the pictures on the sites above, it doesn't look like the thread is wound evenly on their spools. personally, i don't think i'd try it. |

Why would you need to do this? You can use a cone stand for large spools, like this one

I think it's for people that want to wind everything on spools that doesn't come on a spool like embroidery floss, perle cotton crochet thread, yarn, etc. I don't think it's actually to try and use those types of fibers on a sewing machine. It's just using the bobbin winder of the sewing machine to better organize fibers that are balled, skeined and/or carded.

wind the thread you want on a bobbin. when you want to use it for top thread drop the bobbing in a tall glass. I use a quart jar and a thread stand. I use skeins of embroidery thread on the sewing machine this way. I'm learning about free motion embriodery and the skeins were the cheapest way to get lots of colors!
