help with sewing machine threading: put a white card behind the needle when threading so you can see the thread better

Bifocal and a shaky hand almost had me not sewing but I found the Bohin Super Needle Threader. Now I can practically thread a needle in the dark! Bet $20 I ever spent.

You could try and cut your thread at an angle. This is what I do and have success every time. I have heard if you lick the thread then that splits the thread but not really for sure on that idea.
