Don't you have a card table, ironing board or fold up banquet table you could put around your sewing to put the excess quilt on? My experience is if you leave the quilt hanging over the edge of the table, it creates a drag that can effect your tension.

Why should I go through the centre of the square rather than the seam lines? Doing every other one and not the whites is a good plan. Ty

Yes thanks I will do the serpentine stitch, I forget I have it. I will do it on the diagonal, every other block line. Tx.

I have a Pfaff 4.2, have quilted several quilts this size. I would either quilt in a diagonal grid or FMQ. It's easier on a LA machine, but quite doable with your machine.
