I'm looking for ideas of something I can help my DGS to make for their Mom for Christmas. They are 8 and 5 1/2. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks so much in advance

When my granddaughter was little, I had her pose for a photo. I had it printed and then had her do a handprint (with poster paint) on a piece of paper. We combined the photo, handprint and a ittle poem in a frame. http://www.preschoolplaybook.com/200...rint-poem.html

We also put photos of her in either tiny handmade or bought frames for Christmas ornaments each year. (Magnets are easy too!) She has also hand- stitched pillow-style pincushions, but boys might not like so much. Bookmarks are also fun to make---using cardstock, stickers, or little photos. (Recently she helped mold soap for her mom!)

I made this little Christmas ornament in school when I was 5. My mom loved it and still has it. We did it with plastic eggs that panty hose used to come in but I don't know if they are still made anymore. You could use styrofoam balls. Anyway, cut colored tissue into little squares. Thin out some Elmers glue and dip the tissue in it and glue all over the ball. Add a photo and some ribbon to hang.

Here's another one but this one takes a lot more prep work. You will need wooden skewers and the plastic rings that hold six packs. Cut the six pack rings apart into individual rings. Fold them in half so they form curved rings. Poke the skewer through the ring so the plastic on the skewer pointing up (the pointy end of the skewer is the top). Keep adding rings, twisting and overlapping them. You should end up with something that has the shape of a hyacinth. Spray paint the plastic and cover the skewer with floral tape.

Have seen Quilt blocks made recently that were drawn with permanent pens, could be turned into a potholder, or have them paint a pre maid one ?
or painting a reusable tote bag, apron, still have my imprented handprint from K, ceramic glazed, turns out some of my fingers were always crooked LOL :)

Painted salt dough ornaments! I think that would be good for both ages.

Just remembered that granddaughter, Eris, last year made mug mats for Dad and Mom. We cut (with pinking shears) square of muslin and printed square of fabric, both about 4 inches. She colored picture with crayons of family pet (flower or anything ok) She signed art, of course. (I pressed it with paper towel on top to set & added a few outline strokes with black permanent marker). Then we cut square of batting about 1/4" smaller. The backing, batting and top were pinned together. She used big needle with embroidery thread to sew about 1/2 inch from edge. Stitches pretty large but it stayed together.

Last year I purchased a wire frame for making a wreath. I cut strips of fabric about 1" wide and 3" long. The grands (then 6 and 3) tied the strips on the wire frame and now I have a lovely Christmas wreath.
