I am making some Bible bags again for my friend's ministry when she goes to the Philippines this fall again. I have looked thru EB books and u-tube videos but can't seem to find any info on this block. I was sure there is some easy way to make this block by strip piecing and then sewing diagonally with a square and you instantly have two pieced blocks?? Thanks. Just trying to come up with various blocks to make each bag unique. THANKS! :)

Here's MTS's explanation on how to do this.

I'd start out by stip piecing the pink and yellow.
then sew the blue strip pieced on. good luck

It would be awesome to do the pinwheel in 3d.
using a prairie point in the yellow section.

Yes, do HSTs with the pink/yellow and then use those as have the HST with the blue. But remember your yellow and pink have to start out larger than the blue to get the right sizing since their seam will take up some of the size. I haven't done these in a while, but you are on the right track!

Looks easier than other methods I've seen. Thanks for sharing Jan,

You can strip piece it, if you have a "strip tube" ruler. First, make a strip of pink/yellow WOF. Layer that with a blue strip WOF. So, if you have 2.5" yellow & pink strips, you need a 4.5" blue strip. Use the strip tube ruler to cut segments.

Or, sew pink/yellow strips, and cut into squares. Layer with a blue square the same size. Sew around all four edges, 1/4" in. Cut on both diagonals, and you end up with 4 squares. But only two are this pattern. The other two have a blue half, and pink/yellow strip runs in the same direction as the center seam. Two blocks for the price of one :)

That appears to be the Southern Belle block with directions here:

Isn't it amazing how different colors & placement makes a block look totally different. I know your friend will love getting these Bible bags from you. You are very thoughtful to do this for her ministry.

Thanks Jan! Always love having a picture reference. I can read directions a dozen times, then see a diagram and go aah-haa!!!!
