I found one of the 100% cotton made in China quilted throws marked down to $5. I thought this would be great to practice my free motion quilting. Already sandwiched and basted  with the big quilting stitches. A practice piece this big would cost me much more using my batting and fabric. My Bellaboo (doggy) will have a new quilt and I will get lots of practice using different threads.

what a great idea. I always use my practise piece as many times as possible using different color threads.

Very creative and I am sure BellaBoo will love her new quilt :D:D:D

I just cut up one of those myself ;-) My mom gives me hers when she changes out. I get a couple every other year or so. I don't tell her what I use them for ;-)

For my 2nd Granddaughter in 1996, her Mom bought some of the quilted quilt yardage that was machine quilted and wanted me to finish them as quilts. I was hand quilting at the time, so I handquilted them and took out the 'quilting' it was pretty easy and fast. Just used 'their' quilting as basting.

Great idea!! I as trying to think of a "cheap" way to get some practice on a a larger project. It's hard to get the feel for the bulk of a quilt when you are practicing on smaller pieces.

sounds like a great idea
