Electric Quilt (EQ-7) question
 

This was my first design using EQ7 and thought. It is a simple design so expected perfect results. The program said this would make a 60.91 x 86.37 Quilt. Mine came out to be 44 x 60".

So, I am sewing away...making rows and adding on the quarter triangles at each end....the when more than half done realized this was NOT going to make that big of a quilt. Guess I made a lap quilt for someone.

Does anyone know what I did wrong in designing on EQ to make this difference? I am attaching pictures of the design and my finished one. They each have 12 triangles across the top.

What does EQ say the block size is when you went to cut?

Each square is 2" finished (2.5" cut)

In EQ, was the block size 2"? What did the layout say? Hard to say without knwing more details. Probably there is another expert on QB that can help you more than me. I will watch for the answer.

I didn't make blocks...I sewed rows of 3 squares, then added the neccessary squares and 1/2 squares...I started in one corner and then added on in each direction. Hope that makes sense! :)

But no matter how it got sewn together...they aren't the same size.

I tried to duplicate your quilt in EQ7. In order to achieve the same measurements your EQ7 pattern did, I had to use a 3" block, not a 2" block. When I used a 2" block, I came out with measurements more in line with your actual quilt.

When I count blocks, I'm counting white also and it goes 2,4,6,8,10. Is that the way it is supposed to be or should it read 1,2,3,4,5,6, 7,8,9,10? counting from the corner.

If you are new to EQ, you might have made a mistake. I have had a version of EQ from 1995 and there has never been any mistake in calulations with EQ (except they calculate more fabric then necessary)

I am not sure if anyone on the board can reproduce what EQ says on the layout. I have EQ5

CHECK again your layout. Did you have numerous various quilt layout in the sketchbook?? Did you print out the rotary cutting instructions???? PLEASE get back to us. I love my EQ and if you don't find out what is wrong, I don't want you to be frustrated.

I got the same results as EIQuilter. I am guessing that your design had 3" blocks in the layout.

One other caution, when you chose to "print out" the rotary cutting directions, templates or the foundation patterns, there is an option to use the size from the quilt or a custom size. That can create problems - especially if a particular block was designed lets say as a 6" block and you are using it in a quilt that has 9" blocks (ask me know I know - lol).

It is a cute quilt - save it for a baby gift!

YES, YOU ARE correct. I have gotten caught with that mistake too !!!
