Elephant, yes or no to the black??

Do you thing the black would look ok in my elephant quilt? It will be used for eyes and ears? Thank you.

Which pattern is it? If the ears are full out, I think black might over power the body. Pretty fabrics!

MadQuilter 11-22-2016 12:45 PM

Too high contrast. A grey or a blue/grey would look better if you want to go dark.

It's like the one I made.

I'd do grey ears, dark grey or brown eyes. Otherwise all attention goes straight to black.

Tartan 11-22-2016 02:30 PM

I like that dark grey that is in the toes.

buddy'smom 11-22-2016 03:11 PM

Thank you, this one is all purples, really have to think on this one before starting.

Perhaps you could use that dark green for the eyes.

buddy'smom 11-23-2016 07:38 AM

Thank you, I was thinking the same thing, I'll switch the dark with a light??

The eyes are fairly small so it should not overpower. What you might consider (if the ears are very big) is to quilt over the black with a variegated green/blue thread. Maybe multiple echo stitching lines within the ears. This could tone down a large area of black.

bearisgray 11-23-2016 10:09 AM

I think maybe a navy instead of black?

The dark green that you have in the mix reads as very dark to me in comparison to the other fabrics shown. Maybe that could be your "black"?

I like a lighter background than black. You used a dark navy to make wrinkles on the trunk of the purple won, black would probably look good there and maybe somewhere that looks like a shadow

Wow great elephant. I don't think I would use the black, maybe a grey?

M cubed 11-24-2016 10:01 AM

I would go with the grey (a gentler color but good contrast).

buddy'smom 11-24-2016 02:12 PM

Thank you will most likely use a darker green.

May I ask you who design your big elephant pattern. I is so big and beautiful.
My daughter loves elephants and your purple one is just eye catching.

I love your big purple elephant. I think the black would be too stark of a contrast. I vote for a gray. There used to be an old joke about seeing pink elephants if you had too much to drink. What a hoot to make a pink elephant quilt! I love your colors and design. Please show us the finished one!

buddy'smom 11-25-2016 07:01 AM

Thank you, the name of the pattern is the elephant abstractions by violet craft. Ladies if you were to make this quilt to sell or for someone how much would you charge for just the top?

Cute elephant.
