I've read a bunch of postings about sewing tables, but don't see anything about a table that is higher...35 or 36 inches. Horn of America has one that's 35" and you sit on a drafting chair and it has a shelf for your feet, pedal, etc.

Seems to me that this would be a good dual-purpose sewing and cutting table in one space. And that getting down from a drafting chair might be easier on my creaky knees that getting up from a regular chair. I have a chance to make one big investment for my sewing room and I'm thinking of this as an option.

Do any of you sew at a higher table? What are the pros and cons?

I sew on a "lowered" table - works out better for me.

I do have a "raised" dining room table for cutting.. DH made 5 or 6 inch "risers" for it.

I don't sew on a higher table - however I do have a special chair - it is called a kneeling chair - I got the model that has a backrest on it - also has the adjustable height supposed to keep your back straight and less stress on the back- I really like it.

I have not used a raised table for sewing, but a few years ago (after complaining periodically and finally asking permission to go buy the cinder blocks myself) I did get my worktable for receiving in merchandise at the store put on cinderblocks so I didn't get such a backache from bending over to check in the items. It made a significant difference!

I use a horn cabinet (that never gets folded up), but I cut out on part of my kitchen worktop that sticks out from the rest, rather like a small breakfast bar. It's exactly the right height for me to cut. The only downside is that it is a walk from my sewing room to the kitchen, but that is probably good for me.

I do. I'm tall by nature, and most tables are way too short for me. My regular machine table is tall now, thanks to my DH. At the longarm, I sit in a drafting stool when possible, complete with back, small arms, and a foot rest. Works wonderfully for me. I slide on and off it.

I don't move well due to surgeries on my back and a brain tumor that keeps me from bending easily. Therefore, sitting/sliding onto a drafting chair is awesome for me! I think you will like it. We just have to do whatever we can to be comfortable while pursueing our normal activities.

Kinda like my car - had to sell it because my hubby kept having to pull me out of it. (I couldn't stand up well so would call him from the garage to come and get me on days I couldn't manage alone. I know, stupid, right??? But true!) So, we bought a van where I can simply slide my tushie right onto the seat and swing my legs around. No moving up or down. These are the things that have made my life much easier as I've learned to live with my illnesses.

It's worth considering if you have problems bending :) We know those bendy things don't usually improve.

I have used bed risers to raise my cutting table before I was able to get the highter cutting table.

I have my sewing table raised high with the bed risers and some blocks of wood. I like to sew standing up.
