Elmer's "fine tip"
 

I am wondering what the "fine tip" that I see used sometimes on Elmer's glue, used for basting or other quilting uses?
I went to Michael's today and they had no idea what I was looking for (guess I didn't either).

What is it and where do I find it as I would love to try this "glue" method for binding and it looks like it would put a fine line down..

I saw them at Michael about 3 weeks ago. They were not near the glue but were near the paints.

I go mine at Michael's also. In the acrylic paint aisle, hanging on the peg board. They came in a package of 2 metal tips and 2 small clear bottles. I have also seen them at Joann's, but were near the x-acto knives.

I looked and looked at Michael's a couple of years ago, couldn't find it, clerk couldn't find it, gave up. Someone on this wonderful quilting board said to use the tip end of a mechanical pencil. Happened to have a nice cheap plastic one, took it apart, took apart the glue bottle tip, inserted the pencil tip and Viola! A nice thin line applicator tip. I do notice that I have to rinse it out after using, but I bet you'd have to do that with a metal tip, too. By the way, to close it I use a straight pin. DON'T use a regular straight pin. They rust. Use a brass one and just stick it in the tip of the tip. When I empty a glue bottle next, I'll just save the original top and switch out the tops, washing out the one with the pencil tip.

That is exactly why I want this tip... enjoyed the video and tried to "glue" a wall hanging tonight and think the tip would be easier..thanks

I bought this same package of bottles and tips, but don't know how to use the tips, no directions. Do you put them inside the tip of the glue bottle. Would love some help, thank you.

Just a question on these fine tips - I bought a glue that had one, and the glue kept oozing out of the top of the tube by capillary action. Is this common with all fine tips? If you cap it, how badly does the cap stick? I had to stick a pin in the top of another type bottle before capping it.

I got mine here about a month ago.

I cheated...I took one of the tips from my cake decorating kit no longer being used, and taped that tip to the top of the glue bottle. That worked great for my first project! And then I realized, how do I close the tip and keep the remaining glue from drying out in the bottle? Off came the tip and easy came the closure of the glue bottle! The tip is on stand-by, just in case needed in the future.

Those tips are hard to find. Two suggestions: Roxanne Glue-Baste-It comes with the tip. It is expensive but you can use Elmer's after you use up the Roxanne. Less expensive and works quite well, is the Elmer's Dual Tip Pen. The only place I could find that was Walmart but the finer end of that is pretty good and you can't beat the price.

The tips work good for applique also! I saw that bunny hill has them also

I bought a bottle of Roxanne's Glue-Baste-It at my local quilt store. The first bottle was $4.50 for 1/2 oz. Then I was at another quilt store and found a larger bottle. 2 oz. for $9. VERY expensive. But I have done two big quilt bindings with them and there is not much gone. The fine tip is economical. The small bottle came with built in plastic tip. Probably not refillable, but the larger bottle came with two metal tips, a cap for the top, and a plastic poker to clean the tip. I haven't had to clean the tip. Besides the tip comes off and you could clean it with water. When this bottle is empty, it will be filled with washable SCHOOL Glue.
JoAnn's did not know what I was talking about when I asked for the school glue. They had many bottles of regular glue near the checkout. When I tried to talk to the manager about stocking school glue, she did not seem interested!

I, too use the #1 Wilton cake decorating tip. I used gorilla glue and put it on the outside top of my glue bottle. Now I can open and close the bottle with the tip attached. I also found that the generic school glue at WM works just as well as Elmer's and is 34 cents a bottle. You can't get much cheaper than that!

I bought it at Tuesday Morning store for .99 a bottle. It has a tip so fine you can write with it. The original glue is fabric friendly. I use just a tiny tiny dot and it bonds.

I bought mine from Sharon Schamber's website back when she offered the metal ones. I've been using it for about 2-3 years. I never rinse it out. I do use a pin - one of those very short applique pins. It doesn't rust. Hope this helps.

This link shows how to make a temporary tip with tape. When finished pull the tape off and put the lid on. I like that way of doing it. It is free!

I have used the tape method when I didn't have a tip. The tape always bent or got limp after a few runs of glue through it. The right tip will save you money and frustration. If you find a great tip on a bottle of anything and it's refillable, buy it.

Remove the original dispenser spout from the washable glue bottle. Replace with the pointy plastic tip and then screw on a metal tip. I use a plastic price tag (the skinny connector part that goes thru the clothing) to stick into the opening to keep it from gluing shut. However, for the long term, after I'm done using the glue for a binding, I remove the metal tip, soak in water to clean it out. Replace original spout and cap too.

Michaels carries some of Elmer's fine tip glues in the scrapbooking/ paper crafting department near the tape runners and photo corners. They are Elmer's items branded as CraftBond and are in an orange packaging. There are a variety of dual tip glue pens- one side of the glue has a broad side and one side of the glue has a precision tip. They are available in wet&dry, clear, flexible and quick dry formulas and cost around $2.99. The precision tip side of that item may be what you are looking for...

In the same area of the store (under the Elmer's CraftBond brand) there is also an adhesive multipack set and in that set is a fine tip precision pen that may also work. That set costs around $6.99.

I bought Fine Tip Tops that fit on Elmer's glue bottles perfectly. Fit on 4oz bottles. They are sold at Walmart in the craft paint isle , are plastic, 6/package, cost around $5.00 and are made by PLAID. They work great.Good luck.

That was really neat. Thanks for sharing. Going to give that a try first chance I get. A quick word of caution. . .
I tried the glue thing with a binding and it was great BUT when ironing it dry on the back I must have pulled because I stretched the binding. The quilt now has a bit of a wavy edge but I'm sure the 2yr old g-grandson will never notice.

What's the big deal about these tips? The regular orange tip on the Elmer's bottle is adjustable to a very thin line or a line about a 1/4 wide. Shoot I've even used those red and yellow ketchup and mustard bottles to hold the glue because it was easier to fill them up from the big gallon jug. I've been doing the glueing for years with no special tips. Why spend the money when you don't need to.

okay I have this but I can't get the tip clean after using it. I tried sticking a long straight pin in it and I tried soaking in hot water, still is clogged. Anybody know how to clean the tip??
