Elmer's washable clear glue
1 Attachment(s)
I wanted to try the clear glue for basting my tablerunner but I tried it on a scrap of my backing first. As you can see from yesterday's sample, even dry you can see the glue on a light solid backing. Since it wasn't a huge project, I decided to try my glue stick. It worked really well as you can see when I pulled the extra batt off my scraps, it was attached enough to pull some of the fibers from the batt.

I have not used the clear glue but recently have tried, with success, the white school glue. It held perfectly and washed out easily. I will pick up some of the sticks and give them a try too. Thanks for the idea.

I've used the regular white stuff and the purple tinted clearish one and while I could see it on the fabric, it all washed out. I think the trick to the glue is to wash the finished project when it is done. So a wall hanging not being washed is something else.

Interesting thanks for sharing! I am going to have to try the glue stick.

I have only used the white Elmer's Washable School glue - it washed out every time on neutral and white fabrics. I always wash my projects when I am done so I haven't bothered to trial anything else.

thanks for the 'review'. i was at joann's today and noticed the clear glue there.

Thanks Tartan, I haven't seen the clear yet, I am glad you tested it.

I use the washable school glue for all my basting. When I first started using it I used too much and it was difficult to wash out. I think the key is use it sparingly. You really don't need much to hold things in place. Now I hold the bottle over the batting and run it out in a very thin stream using a zig zag pattern. I also wash my quilt in warm water with detergent. Cold water wash didn't take the glue out.

I wanted to try the clear because sometimes the white can leave a messy spot on my bindings. I am pleased with the clear used sparingly on my binding and if I had planned to wash my table runner, it probably would have washed out. I really like the glue stick for gluing small projects.
