I have the opportunity to purchase a used Elna 9000 that belonged to a friend's mother prior to her recent death. What do you know about these machines (I went to the sewing machine review at Pattern Review.com)? If I can get this at a good price and if the machine is in good working shape, should I get it, or is it a machine to avoid? So far, it seems to be missing a needle (shouldn't be a problem) and the power cord (definitely a problem, but they are available for purchase online). Tomorrow it is being checked over by a sewing machine dealer, so that will tell me more...any advice/suggestions will be appreciated! Thanks - :-D

I have one of these machines. I have an Elna Stella and a 9000. The Stella is a smaller machine with a full size motor. That one I used for sewing my 3 boys denim overalls. The 9000 I used for lighter materials, no problems just habit. Both machines are in great working order. My local repairman said that I have 2 of the best machines ever made. He really liked them. The only problem I had with the 9000 was that one day it wanted to sew all by itself. I had to shut it off to stop it. Not a computer problem but a foot control problem. Repairman found a used one and everything is fine. Enjoy.

I have an Elna 8000. Bought in new in maybe 1994. I love it and have never had any problems with it. It does what ever you want it to do, and the stiching is beautiful.
