Embroidery machine for Quilt Labels

I'm looking to buy a simple new or used embroidery machine to use for making quilt labels. I'd like a few fonts to choose from and maybe some borders. I'm not familiar with them at all. I know my Bernina 640 could add on embroidery but I have a feeling the cost of that would be pretty high. Are there brands and styles you could suggest that would do a nice job and be reliable without costing an arm and a leg? I'm never likely to be way into embroidery so something simple would be best.

I have two Brother embrodiery machines and love them both. I have about 100 different cards for them and you can buy the cards and/or machines on ebay. Just my opinion.

Love my brother. They are the most user friendly, not a big learning curve

I also need to know which models you would recommend.

try the brother 770 and read about it. I recommended it to a friend. Love the Brother/Babylock for their simplicity and beautiful embroidery. Don't bother with the 4x4 hoop, be sure it can at least do 5 x 7"

Check with your dealer about used machines. People often trade up and the trade-ins are priced nicely. That is how I got my BabyLock. It is more than you need for labels. I hear there are inexpensive embroidery only machines.

If you already have a sewing machine I would get the pe700

I bought the simple little Brother PE-500. I paid $300 and on Amazon it is now a little cheaper. It has a field of 4 x 4 and lots of built in stitches. I wanted is JUST for labels and absolutely love it. I have no desire for any other fancy stuff so it is perfect for me.

It stitches all by itself while I am sewing quilts. You can save things in it that you use all the time for lettering.

yes I agree it should have at least a 5x7". My 1st only had a 4x4'' I had to get anther with larger hoops.

If you watch the yahoo group "sewitsforsale" you might find an embroidery module for your Bernina 630 for a reasonable price. There is one listed now for $400 including 3 hoops, embroidery foot, and carry case. I have a Bernina 440 (which I bought used from someone on sewitsforsale) and it uses the same embroidery module. I have always loved the quality of the embroidery on my Bernina. The large oval hoop goes up to 6" x 10". Your 630 would already have the capability built in, (including 5 fonts) and you only need the module. This is the listing I found (NAYY):

Since I am not familiar with your machine, a question: can your machine sew writing? My Pfaff has that feature and I have used it and liked the results.

Otherwise, check online and LQS [I prefer LQS or quilt guilds]. Someone may want to trade up and then you could buy their machine.
