I am so confused that I'm not sure which one to buy. I have a pfaff sewing machine, but looking at the Viking for an embroidery machine. I am looking at the Viking Designer Diamond and Designer Topaz Which do you prefer, or do you like a different model? Any info would be appreciated.

Go to the search feature at the top of the page and enter the machines you're looking at. There's lots of info in past threads. Good luck.

I don't own either of these machines  but I do own the Husqvarna Viking Designer SE which I love. Previously I owned the #1+. I can't speak highly enough about Vikings. My experience has been that they are trouble free, stitch and embroider beautifully, have all of the must have features...I could go on and on.
Because these machines are a real investment, you should test drive them, and maybe other leading brands, gather literature about them to make comparisons, and get a feel for the dealers involved. Having a good dealer is a real benefit. Good luck in your search

p.s. I think (check with the dealer) both of the machines you mentioned are built on the same large platform which gives you a lot of space to the right of the needle...gives you lots of room for quilting. That would be a feature I would like.

I have gradually worked my way up through the Viking line over the years and now have a Diamond, which I love for the large hoop size. However, I have also loved all my previous Vikings (Designer 1 etc.) and found them all to be very low maintenance and easy to use. My only regret is that I wasn't able to keep the earlier models as well.

Try looking at http://sewing.patternreview.com/SewingMachine/Reviews
It has all sorts of machines reviewed from people that actually have them. I checked out several when I was shopping around for one.
