Wow, does that mean I will get a prize??? :D :D

My pages are set up to get 39 posts per page... I am too lazy to keep clicking pages over :D:D But, what you say makes sense. Others have made the same comment that is why I wondered what was wrong with me. Thanks for putting me straight!:D

I am staying here and going to the new thread also, Don't want to miss anything.

Is it just me or is this a really hard thread to navigate? If you start at the first page you get messages that are 2 years old, if you go to the last page, you have to go backwards to find out what the person is talking about. I find it very frustrating.

If you go to the top of the thread and go to subscriptions, you can set it for instant notification by email or a daily digest. I have instant since there aren't too many posts here. That way when you click on the link for the thread, it will take you to the post after the last one you read.

I have a Janome 300e and I'm am trying desperately to learn to use it. I have gotten all the basics but one big problem is getting designs lined up correctly. I want/need to make a label for a quilt that I have ready to gift. I used one of the built in designs on a piece of muslin. It is a flowered frame...a design that is built into the machine. WELL, I was surprised that I wasn't able to go to the wording and type in more than one line. Then I was short one letter of being able to put just "Made by Pat Smith"....the "h" wouldn't fit and I was using the smallest font. Then I decided I'd just write the "Made by" on one line and put my name on the next line and the date on a third line. But then I don't know how to get the lines all lined up. Am I making any sense?

I don't want to invest money into a digitizer program at this point. Is there any way I'm able to do this otherwise. I have downloaded a free program that was suggested on this post called Wilcom and was so happy that I am able to view the designs on the computer instead of having to guess what they are by the file name/number.

I would appreciate any help anyone can give me. Pat

Pat, I too have the Janome 300. You can do up to a 5x7 on it, so you have to decide how large you want to do and choose the correct frame. Many times I go for the larger size for my labels. It doesn't have to be the whole 5x7 size, but larger than the 4x4. I have had trouble fitting all of what I want to say on one line, so I just go on to the next line when I need to. This machine also has a reduce button, where you can reduce a word or line by 10% or increase by 20%, if I'm remembering correctly. If you shrink the whole thing by 10% you can get that extra letter or two in. The Janome 300 is a very basic machine. I would suggest sitting down with the book and taking it step by step so you know what your machine will do. Also, if you have a good relationship with your dealer, you can drop in and they will sit down with you and do these kinds of things with you. I learned a lot that way. I did purchase the very basic digitizing program by Janome called Customizer that sells for $200-$300 from your dealer. It is very basic but it has 5+ fonts and you can curve the lettering, incorporate a design you have, digitize a basic design, etc. It does have its limits.

I'm still learning how to "get around" here. I am so glad I found out there is a group for machine embroidery!

Does anyone on this thread have and use a Viking Topaz 30? I have one and love it but have been nervous about using the embroidery. I live in a long distance from the closest Viking dealer so am unable to take any classes. It would be so helpful if there is someone on here who could mentor me.

I have the Viking Ruby that came out after it. Both are very easy machines to use. There are a few tutorials on Vikings website that might help you. What is you want to know; maybe I can help

Lucy, we are very much in the same boat. I also have a Topaz 30 and live a couple hour drive from the nearest Viking dealer. This dealer is not where I bought my machine and she is not very helpful - but that is another story. I was unable to follow the written instructions, but did get some help from a dealer I did not buy from and have enjoyed embroidery ever since. I had my machine almost three years before I was able to use it. I am still pretty new at it, but PM me and I will try to help in any way I can. Once you start using the embroidery unit, I'm sure you will enjoy it.
