I have a question. If you are going to embroidery a quilt square do you piece it first than embroidery or do you embroidery the one piece then finish piecing the square? So far I have only done two blocks with embroidery and I embroidered the small square then pieced the block but I was wondering how everyone else does it.

I embroidery first then piece. Like my contempry red work.

Yep I embroider, then piece, less chance of stretching out seams and fabric (from the hoop) in an already finished block that way.
Awesome redwork Quilt4u!!! |
Thank you ladies for your response. That is the way that I thought would be best but I saw on an emboridery site where they said to make the whole top then embroidery. I'd be afraid to do that because if your machine messed up then you would have to scrap the whole top.
Thanks again. |
Me too Loretta!:0)I just did a Halloween one and then pieced(quilt blocks) it together...was much fun. Am now presently working on the 'Winter Wonderland' from Crab Apple...it is too cute!! I love red and white quilts and I love snowmen...so it is defin. a good thing:))
I think it is easier to move around if you are doing stitchery first by themselves...guess I am not a backhanded stitcher:))LOL Skeat |

Please post pix of your Halloween and red snowmen if you can. Would love to see them. |
quiltwoman...I can't post my Halloween one due to the LQS swiped it when I took it in to show them...and, to think I took it in to pick up the outside border!:))(Which is still not on it!!)I've never had that happen and I am feeling a bit big headed over it!!LOL My Winter Wonderland...I am on the top part of the saying...about halfway on the first block. I will post pics when I get it done:))And, of the other whenever I get it back!!:))Skeat

Skeat,
Your bigheadedness is duly yours!!! That's an awesome compliment I'd say!! Congratulations - when you get it back - pictures?? |
Thanks quiltlady!:0)I was so surprised! I've been working hard on quilting and totally enjoying it. I never knew how to sew before this and am learing as I go. It really helps w/motivation and the feeling that maybe we are always pickier on ourselves:))LOL And, that it is true in what I've heard...'if you can't see the mistakes on a galloping horse, then it doesn't matter'!:))Skeat
