I today just purchased a brother SE 350 machine that was marked down to $150. Seriously could NOT pass that deal up...The machine does Embroider AND reg. sewing.
Question - What have you embroidered? And have you ever done anything on a quilt? I would love to Embroider, just don't know how to do it yet LOL. |
I have embroidered on squares to include in quilts, it is a lot of fun and looks wonderful, too :D:D:D

The sky is the limit, if you can dream it up, you can do it.
I did a family tree quilt, embroidering each square with an ancestors name, birth, death and marriage dates, and locations. In my avatar you will see on the left side is my hubby's grandma's ancestors, the middle is his grandparents and their children. The right side is his grandfather's line. Photos on top belong to his grandma's side and on the bottom his grandfather's.. |
I have that machine, what a deal!! I have done sandwiched quilts also quilts as you go and blocks it is so much fun! I love mine!! Did you get the PED basic so you can download the thousands of free designs on the internet? It is well worth the money!

just don't be afraid of it. I used an old sheet for practice cut my squares about 7 inches got some Stitch and Tear Pellon interfacing Cut a square to put under the fabric. Hoop it and place the hoop on the machine choose your design lower the pressure foot and hit the button! Away it goes it tells you when to change thread colors. I like to stitch out the design on this scrap fabric so I can see where I might want to change colors in the design. Come on give it a whirl you are going to love it! If you put a design on t shirts or sweatshirts use iron on interfacing. Nothing in the house was safe from me once I started. My towels have names and monograms my doilies have butterfly's placemats got roosters there was no stopping me!

**Groan**
I bought the 350 on a whim last year and I have never -not once- used it for anything. I had big dreams. HUGE. But...never did. Hmph! Maybe this year. |
I make all my labels on mine only problem I have had is there is no spell check! Have done some redo's because of spelling errors!

I have embroidered blocks for a quilt, embroidered the sandwich with quilting designs, socks, tees, towels, fly swat, purses, jeans, bottle aprons, baby burps, and toilet paper.
I have had mine 2 years and the hardest thing for me was getting the stablizers right. My favorite to embroider is towels, tees are the worse for me. The mebroidery library site has a lot of useful tutorials on embroidery. The only way to learn is to use it lol!!!!! |
How big is the embroidery area on the 350?
|
It is 4x4 I have found it plenty big enough so far.
|
Upnorth, You sound just like me! My towels all have borders added, monograms, and don't get me started on what I've done for the bedrooms & kitchen. So much fun!
|
I use my largest hoop and quilt my quilts with it. Works great!

sylvia77: which machine do you have and could you explain a little about how you use it to quilt your quilts? I am considering an embroidery machine and that's one thing I would really like to be able to do with it.Thanks.

Machine Embroidery will expand your creativity when making your quilts. I usually embroider quilt blocks and stitch them into a quilt. The embroidery CD's are endless with possible designs. Mine are usually crib/lap quilts. Enjoy
