anyone know of a good machine like this? i want both in one machine..i would love love love to have an embroidery machine to do things for my daughter..
her name is Andi and I cant find anything with her name on it..
plus my cousin Cortney..her name is spelled different and you cant find anything either..

but i would like one and the cheapest i have found is one at walmart for $350..its the disney embroidery machine...does that regular sew as well?

right now i have a 26 yr old Kenmore..it was given to me so i will keep that one forever..just want a new one..

Hello, JenLucas. I can say I saw the SE 270D at Wal-Mart for $350. The price was running about $424 on those. You can purchase the same machine on eBay cheaper, but I got mine at WM in case it needed returning. And BOY has it had its share of problems. The machine has broken my heart! I had to send it back bc the automatic needle threader broke on it. You cannot use it without it.
I love the machine and what it does, but mine has had problems and Brother has a poor customer service department. I got mine back with less bobbins than I sent in, the accessory bag was all ripped up, the seam ripper was broken. They only said that's why they tell ppl not to send the accessories back when getting them fixed. Nobody bothered to tell me that, though. So, I'm SOL on that, basically what they told me.
It will only take certain bobbins that I haven't found in any store. I got some from eBay for pretty cheap, though.
THe machine is computerized and sews like any other machine will. When you want to embroider, just put the embroidery unit on to switch it over.

Why don't you look at some of my other posts? I've posted quite a few on this machine. It's said I have a love/hate relationship with it. I think I'm really mostly upset with Brother's service.

My kids have unique names, too, so I was happy to be able to put their names on things. (Jewelienne and Jaydrien are their names)

I don't think you'll find a cheap embroidery machine. I have the Singer CE100 and it can use almost any format, some of the machines you have to buy only their designs on cards, this one you can buy them online and download right to your computer and start sewing them. It is also a very good sewing machine, it was around 500.00 at WalMart.
Good luck in your search, but remember a good sewing machine is an investment and you usually have it for years.

I have an Ellageo by Babylock and I love it. :D I can do everything on it (sew, quilt (although can be tight), embroider etc.). In all honesty, I don't think you will be happy with an embroidery machine purchased by WalMart. They aren't built as well as an investment like that should be. Besides that, some of the machines say that they are built by a reputable manufacturer, but in truth, they aren't. There has been a big buy out and swapping of companies in the sewing world recently and if it says it was a Pfaff, it was really built by Singer (just put those two names in to use as an example). I recommend that you try ebay or even better, a local sew and vac store. They usually have sales and clearances on very good machines. For instance, Babylock came out with a new design on the machine I have and the sew and vac store by us had my style of machine (older style) on clearance for a fraction of the price of a new styled one. The only difference is the color of the body of the machine, everything else is the same. Just keep in mind that they will cost you a pretty penny, but in return you will have a good machine that will work well, embroider great and you will have peace of mind that it wont break every time you want to do a big project. In my honest opinion, if you are going to invest in something like that, try and get a quality machine so you get your hard earned money's worth.

If it is the disney machine I am thinking (I have the same one) it only does embroidery and not regular sewing. Also you can only use Disney design cards in the machine - no others. I have a Brother - very reliable and sturdy for alot of sewing. (And use the embroidery part as much if not more). The newer ones do both sewing and embroidery and you can use all Brother design cards in the machine. They generally run $1000 and up - but well worth the investment if you can.

i second the recommendation on Pfaff. I recently bought a used 2170. it is wonderful! I also have a Babylock Esante but it is not half the machine that the Pfaff is. the Babylock is always making birds' nests on the bottom of the embroidery and that drove me crazy cuz you have to keep stopping in the middle of the design to clean it up on the bottom. The Pfaff is not cheap but it will last and you can probably buy a 2140 on e bay for a decent price.

need a new sewing machine. I also purchased a Magic Box so I can
write design off the computer to the card for the emb. machine.
I bought mine on lay away from the Bernina dealer, now they are
running a special...if you open a credit card, you get no interest for
one year. A machine is something you will have for years... buy the
best you can get and you'll never be sorry. Good Luck!

i just purchased a Magic Box on e bay. it was 190.00 I think i paid too much for it. I got carried away! i hope it works! are you happy with yours??

I have to agree with the can't get something for nothing. I own the Bernina 185 E and she does it all. I now want the big dog thats out but, well........ not right now. I love my machine. It sews, it embroiders, it's computerized, it downloads, I think it might even think for me.....well not quite think for me but, you know I just love it. We had to take a personal loan when I bought it 3 years ago but, by golly I now own it lock stock and barrel and I can't wait to see what it can do when I use it to quilt. I own the walking foot for it among other cool stuff. I am sorry you are having so much trouble with the brother. Good Luck.
