Embroidery thread

I have an embroidery machine.....with a Ton of beautiful colors.

Has anyone used embroidery thread in their longarm to quilt with?

What do you think?

Yes and it worked beautifully in my HQ Avante. I used it in the bobbin as well as on top.

I tried but the thread kept breaking. :(

I use a lot of the tri-lobal embroidery threads from this place on the longarm - https://metroemb.com/store/index.php?route=common/home

i suppose that it depends what your thread is made of. some are so fragile, especially if it is old.

My thread is only about 2 years old. No problem with breakage on my embroidery machine. I'm tempted to try it out, but just not sure if I'll like the shean on a quilt or not.
Hm....

Will have to try FMQ w embroidery thread on my long arm machine

Also I saw demonstrations w beautiful (glow in the dark) variegated thread used at the Houston Quilt show on long arm machines
The result was amazing .

I believe Glide was originally marketed as an embroidery thread until Karen McTavish and a couple of other big names discovered it and got the word out. Now they market mostly to quilters but it is a 40wt trilobal polyester. I use glide almost exclusively. I have also used Isacord which is also considered an embroidery thread and the metro/Sigma thread that Dunster linked to. I love the shiny thread in my quilts. It does not overpower and looks beautiful and I find it much stronger than many threads. There is also the added bonus of no lint like is produced from 100% cotton.

Now that you mention it, I'm looking and more than half of my thread is embroidery thread, various brands. At first some were too shiny. For some reason I'm not a fan of glide. I have some, but don't use it very much. Although I did just find some 60 wt. at the LQS. If this comes in colors, I'm in. I won't mind it in the bobbin.
IceLeopard some time you really have to play with the tention to get them to work. I don't have a lot of patience with tention even on the DSM. I can usually use any thread without changing the tention, except metro. When I first started using it I lost patience with it and put it away. Then it had a color I needed, so I worked with it until I got it right. But I hardly ever use it.

I have used EMB thread (Exquisite, Floriani) to quilt on a regular machine. No issues. I also use pre-wound bobbins for the bobbin thread in piecing. No issues.

Yes, I've used it many times as well as their metallic threads. Seems my quilting machine loves the metallic threads more so than the embroidery machine. Maybe broke once during the entire time it was stitching out and you know how fast a quilt machine can go. Mine is robotic so the speed changes constantly but I think broke one time is all I can remember.

I wouldn't use rayon embroidery thread in anything that is going to have use or be washed a lot. I did this about 10 years ago on the quilt. Now, I have a quilt with the quilting coming out a will, I guess, have to requilt it at some point. Rayon embroidery thread isn't made for much use an repeated washings. It's fine for wall hangings and garments that don't get washed a lot. But it doesn't appear to stand up well to repeated washings when used for quilting.

I guess I should have clarified what I've used. I almost exclusively use Madeira poly thread(40 and 60wt, I used 40wt for the quilt) for machine embroidery so that's one of the embroidery threads I've used on my long arm. The two others are Metro 40 wt poly that I got from my HQ dealer and the last was a brand from Amazon that I can't remember. All three worked very well. A little bit of tweaking to get the right tension was needed but that's normal when changing thread any way.

I do not long arm quilt but the last quilt I took to a quilter she used embroidery thread and it is beautiful. She uses it usually on quilts that have been machine embroidered.

I use 40 weight embroidery thread in my Babylock Sashiko machine because it's what my Babylock dealer recommended. It works fine, but this is not a longarm machine, more like a dsm.

I LOVE using machine embroidery thread for my FMQ, although I don't have a long arm but I am getting a 20" Bailey, it should be here Monday.
