You could fill one of those clear lamp bases with them and make a lamp for your sewing room.

I'd love to do this with the old fashioned wooden spools!

My MIL had a 'what-not' stand with the posts made from wooden cotton reels, not sure if there was dowling holding them together or just glue, wish I could have got it instead of the SIL

Empty Spool Threads

I recently purchased a serger to make my granddaughter dresses. I saw a hack that uses empty sewing spools to wind serger thread onto for smaller jobs like doing a coverhem stitch so you don't have to buy 4-5 large serger spools. If you are looking to get rid of some, I'd be happy to help you out!

I donate mine ( spools & cones) to a local scout troop and also to the elementary/ junior high school art classes. They come up with all kinds of great, creative things to do with them and really appreciate the donation

Funny you should mention that. I was throwing one away the other day and I remembered when I was little using the wooden cotton reels for french knitting. Dad put four nails into the top and then wool was wound around the nails and I would use a hair pin to pick up the stitches. It was always fun to watch the knitting coming out of the other end. I do not remember actually making anything just doing french knitting.

I was thinking as I was throwing the one away that it would be too thin and fragile - plastic - to put nails into.

. My dad used to make them for me,too.
I just made a few for my GKs but i had to buy craft spools since i only have plastic spools now

Make a wreath out of them.

Even my grandkids know what to do with the empty spool!

Yes, my thoughts exactly.

I have re-threaded many of my spools with embroidery weight threads for machine embroidery. Of course I know the numbers on t he spools do not match the colors I have put on. My machine likes working with smaller thread spools and not large cones. So I re-purpose them this way.
