English Paper Pieced Hexie question

For those of you who baste from the back, do you remove your basting stitches or leave them in once the hexies are joined?

I leave the basting stitches. Not sure if that is the proper way, but works for me.

I used the plastic hexes so I would just pop the hexes out. I only assume that you HAVE to remove the stitches in order to remove the paper. That is why using the washable glue stick is so popular. So quick and easy to use. Even I have been converted to the new way of making hexes.

I use card stock for the pattern and leave the basting stitches in. They pop out quite easily.

I leave in the basting. When I started doing hexies, I never knew about the "sewing through the template" method. I'm so glad I don't do it that way otherwise all the basting has to be taken out!

I leave them in, no reason to take them out.

I also leave them in....paper pops out just fine, especially since it has been bent as I sew in different directions. But I just use heavy copy paper.

I was told when I first started EPP to leave basting stitches in so that when you remove papers, the basting holds down the seam allowances for quilting later. Today in Paducah, I took a class from a well-known Australian EPP quilter named Brigette Giblin. She also said the same thing and not to sew thru papers so they can be removed. I was cutting 2.25" strips for 2" diamonds and she told me my seam allowance was too narrow and would cause the paper to pot out before I was ready for it to.

I have to remove them because I sew through the template.

I leave them in but I used dark cotton on pale hexie--- showed through so I am care full now
