Enlarging template patterns on copier
I'm about to start a quilt(David and Goliath biblical block) and the block size will be 9 inch finished. I want to make them 12 inch. I can just photo copy the pages with the templates to enlarge, right? How much do I enlarge? Thanks for your help.

9" x 133% = 11.97"
If the photocopier allows for decimals 133.3% ---> 11.997" 133.35% ---> 12.0015" 133.4% ---> 12.006" Yes you can just enlarge them on the photocopier, and get what you want. Please remember, that if your templates show seam allowances, that they will be enlarging as well. Just trim them back to the 1/4" once enlarged. |
photo copiers are not as accurate as you might think. there is a little distortion in the translation. as long as the pattern isn't too complicated, i think it would be ok to enlarge.

I would not attempt to enlarge that pattern on a copy machine There are too many variables and angles to assure accuracy. It would be more accurate to redraft the pattern on graft paper. However, this appears to be a 12" pattern

Thank you very much for the tips. I plan to try everything! This is a more challenging pattern for me so I will have to make several practice blocks before I cut into my "real" fabric.

If you do photocopy your templates, make sure you make all the photocopies from the same copier. They do distort, and the distortion varies from machine to machine. So, to keep the distortion even across the board, photocopy them all at once from a single machine.

I would use posterazor. It's a free program you can get online. Just scan in your page/templates and it will walk you through the process. You can change it to overall size or as a percentage. It has not failed me yet. I use it for all of my paper piecing projects that I want to blow up bigger :)

Yarn or Fabric, That looks like it will be easier to use than what I have been doing. Thanks.
Holice, this is yet another example of why a good quilt program is a real asset. |
Has anyone used the posterazor on an Apple device? I see where you can download it on Windows; is the universal download the one to use for Apple?
