EPP glue basting
 

For those who glue baste their English paper piecing, do you have trouble popping the templates out when finished? Does it mess up the templates or are they ok for reuse? Thanks, Jeanann

I found that scotch tape worked better on paper cut out templates than a glue stick.

I heard someone say to briefly heat with your iron and the glue would release enough to pull out the paper. I haven't actually tried it yet.

I use Elmers' school glue stick and don't have any problem with taking out the templates. Even the ones left in for a long time. I use the slick sided cardstock to make my hex templates and I think that makes a difference.

I make templates with cardstock, and I use a Fons and Porter glue pen. It came with blue glue that was quite clumpy. I switched to the Sewline pink glue pen refills, and I have had no problems. I think the trick is using a very light touch when applying the glue.

I also use the sew line and only apply very lightly like Splinter does and I have had no problem removing the papers. the only time I had a bit of trouble is if I got too much glue on there. I only put one line across the middle lightly on the fabric and then hold it tightly for a couple of secs to make sure it sticks.

I use a glue stick & just run a thin ( pencil lead width) line along each edge, fold in, quick press with the iron, they hold beautifully and pop out easy when I'm ready to remove them. No damage to my paper pieces I reuse them over & over again.

Go n line and watch tutes by sue Daly........she got me hooked on sewline glue stick. Btw f&p refills fit it....I use the inserts from mags or junk mail to make hexies...fiskar has a great paper punch.....or paperpieces.com has all supplies at reasonable prices.....for other designs.....silk thread to sew together, so far, has
been the best, for me anyway. I don't iron, nor do I save after use......too much junk mail to recycle!

i use a dab of the old fashioned rub and glue type of glue.
i just dab a drop in the center of the paper. it holds nicely till it's basted.
then it just pops out nicely.
