For the first time in 25 years, we opened gifts tonight! :-D The kids suggested it. Everyone had nice hair. :lol:

Anyway--I installed EQ6 and I can't open it. It reads "could not initialize application Error 42 IPM" I emailed tech support, but I'm sure with the holidays, I won't hear for a few days. So--has anyone installed and had that message? I'll start reading the book in the meantime.

Were you connected to the internet when you were installing the program? It needs internet access to sucessfully install :D:D:D

amma 12-24-2009 05:07 PM

LMBO....I never would have thought of "nice hair" as being a reason to switch traditions :lol::lol::lol: I can see the appeal to this though!!!

In case you can't find the answer, here's what that FAQ page says:

This error 42 is Vista’s way of asking you for more permission. Here’s what to do:

The short way:

* Hold down your keyboard SHIFT key and Right-click the EQ6 shortcut on your desktop.
* Choose Run As, or Run..., or Run As Administrator from the menu.
* Allow this, then continue on with the activation.

The long way:

* Click START > Computer.
* Double-click on your local disk C drive.
* Double-click these folders: Program Files > Electric Quilt Company > EQ6.
* In the opened EQ6 folder you will see two red and white files.
* Right-click on the red and white EQ6 file that is an application file.
* Choose Run as administrator.
* Choose to Allow this and then continue with the activation.

Oh gosh--this is a riot! I'm on lesson two.... :-D!!!!!

Oh wait--I'm on a coffee break--still lesson one! The manual is so funny!! It makes for delightful reading.

nursie76 12-24-2009 06:33 PM

OK folks....we are breaking tradition here tonight also and opening our presents soon. (1st time ever, with no kids in the house Christmas Eve or morning:cry: ). The festivities will start with brunch tomorrow morning here in PA and end up with supper in Greece, NY.

Anyway, I think hubby got me EQ6....so I may be back for some help.

Merry Christmas!

barnbum 12-24-2009 06:38 PM

nursie--Greece isn't far from me--about an hour+. Is this a lull before grandkids? Will you see your kids at some time? Remember--it's not the 25th that's important--it's the love. ;) I'm sure we'll have to show lots of flexibility in years to come...

amma 12-24-2009 06:58 PM

:D:D:D That is why I have been telling everyone that this is NOT your typical manual LMBO I love how they make the lessons fun :D:D:D

You are sooo right, flexibility is the key to sanity and peace.

Actually the reason everything is out of whack is our youngest DD and her hubby have moved to New Zealand for 2-1/2 yrs for her to do post grad work at the Univ of Auckland. Even after they were married, she and her hubby always came up on Christmas eve and stayed, getting up in the morning to carry on the tradition of dragging dad out of bed as he is protesting that it is too early (actually he was usually awake waiting for them). We all had dinner here with other DD and then DS would come from Rochester that evening or the next day and we would all meet at youngests house for supper as my son has developed cat allergies and we have 3.

Anyway, we will make this work, AND we have opened presents...and I not only have EQ6, hubby also got me a Netbook to use with my embroidery module and designs. I really am lucky!

Neat to hear you are near Rochester (Greece), NY. Maybe we can meet sometime when we are visiting our DS.

Take care, and learn EQ6 real good.... I may need some guidance in the future :wink:

Merry Christmas!

Oh, do have one DGS he is 10. Get to see him tomorrow for brunch!

Okay--since you were all so helpful and encouraging, I wanted to show you how I'm learning! :-D

Here are a few I've done so far--nothing fancy, but I'm having a very good time! I even had to skip way ahead to learn how to share them with you. :lol: :lol:

The color stuff is my favorite function so far! How wonderful to know ahead of time just how something will look!!

Oh gosh--they came out big. I saved them under the lowest setting for websites/email! Eeek. Sorry, admin!

JJs 12-25-2009 06:39 AM

don't forget to go to eq website and get ALL the fabric of the month files and anything else that looks interesting~

barnbum 12-25-2009 12:53 PM

JJ--I downloaded a bunch of fabrics from there!!! It's almost as much fun as shopping!!

nursie76 12-25-2009 05:26 PM

Awesome!!!!!!!!
Hubby got me EQ6 for Christmas too, but so far have only managed to get partially though lesson 1. You are really a quick study! Hope I can do as well!

amma 12-25-2009 05:39 PM

Isn't it the best toy for a quilter :D:D:D

barnbum 12-25-2009 05:41 PM

thequilteddove 12-25-2009 07:29 PM

I'm so happy for all of you! I don't have EQ6 yet, but am looking forward to getting it. Our traditions changed this year, too, but with extended and blended families, what can you do but be gracious about it all. Besides, a little change occasionally never killed anyone. All that really matters is that we remember the TRUE meaning of Christmas and that out families are health and happy.

b.zang 12-26-2009 08:44 AM

Oooh, this is fun. I bought EQ6 for myself a couple of month ago and had a lot of fun going through the lessons. I am really enjoying hearing your reactions because they are EXACTLY the same.
This holiday season, I started scanning and importing my own fabric. Once through the lessons, keep the instruction book handy because you are sure to want to do something and have to look it up.
I had forgotten about their website, so appreciate the reminder.
