I am very interested in purchasing this program but am afraid to because of the cost. I want to be able to make my own patterns and use different kinds of sashings. So I am wondering how user friendly it is? And do I have to use the disk every time I want to use the program? Thanks for your help.

No, you don't have to use the disc everytime, the programme is downloaded into your computer, and a handy icon sits on the desk top. The package comes with a very good book, with chapters that talk you through, step by step, but you would be well advised to work through these, and not try and skip ahead, or you will miss out on something you would need to know later. To sum up, the programme will do all you mentioned and lots more, but takes a little effort on your part to be able to make full use of it. Hope that helps. I got family members to buy it for me one Christmas. They didn't get a peep out of me over the whole holidays! I wonder if that's why they bought it?

Also, in EQ6, there are short videos right within the program which cover a wide range of "how to" topics.

Also, there is a user forum at the EQ website where you might get a better idea of the capabilities of the program.

eq6 can only be installed 3 times, and you HAVE to have internet access to install... all because EQ figures everybody is a thief and is out to steal the program.

if you think you might someday be without internet access and you want to re-install (get laid off from job/have limited income etc) or if you buy a new computer or your computer might crash or the company goes out of business, you might consider buying EQ 5 instead of the more expensive EQ6 (you can upgrade later if you don't mind the 3 install restriction and the having to have internet access)

that said, I have both - for which I paid actual money for both - didn't steal either one...

get this, I bought 5 AFTER I bought 6.... because I wanted something I could take to quilt guild etc and I know I will be replacing my laptop at sometime, and I don't keep it connected to the internet at home... just on the road..

It's your choice - I did not know about the restrictions until I had the box in hand (ordered from Joanns on the internet) and if I had known i would not have bought 6 - just 5

You only need to connect to the internet ONCE to use EQ6, and that's just to validate the program.

It's a sad fact, but necessary in these times. As per usual, a small number of selfish thieves make life difficult for the rest of us.

I use it a lot, for everything from designing a whole quilt, to just figuring out the sizes on things. The help section is great, and the forum is great too. It's well worth the money, in my opinion. :-)

I love my EQ6. I spent a lot of time wondering if I really could justify spending the money for it. After I got it I wondered why I had waited so long. I use it all the time and love it.

Hold the tomatoes and eggs!!!

I bought it before I even took one quilting lesson. Just seemed at the time to be something I just had to have and since I was working I could afford it.

Jump forward three years----I have yet to sit down with the book and figure the darn thing out. Every once in a while I'll click on the icon and mess around for a few minutes. Doesn't take long to get frustrated because I don't know what I'm doing.

Another confessional---I even bought the other books that go with it.

One day I'll sit with it and conquer it. Just not today. 8)

I bought EQ6 and I love it!
I spent a couple of hours over the course of a couple of weekends to do the lessons that are in the book.
It was very simple and very user friendly.
I kep thinking, why didn't I buy this sooner?
I use it, I play with it, I dream up quilts I probably will never make, but I love it.
When I want a quick block to do, I go to EQ6...pick & print! Then I can go cut out the block.
I haven't scanned fabrics into it yet, but I am working on a quilt now that I designed the layout in EQ6...
There is a great group at Planet Patchwork as well.

gosh, quiltluvr, I'm glad I'm not the only one who has done this with EQ6!! It takes a lot of time to learn it and I don't have lots of time and I want to actually quilt when I do have time! I think I will really like it though when I finally do find time to work with it.
