Can anyone tell me if the EQ8 software has built in shapes?

(for example, can I create quilts with a certain size triangle, square, etc). I have an Accuquilt cutter and I'd like to design some quilts using the dies I have, but was hoping to not have to draw out the shape each time I want to design something.

Second question: is there a better place to buy it?

That is an excellent question, and I would like to know the answer, too.

I have EQ 7 and you can resize a block using that. However, I haven't found a way to just create a square, or a rectangle. There probably is a way, but I haven't found it.

There are shapes that you can use for 'applique'.

But for 'pieced blocks' the blocks are drawn by drawing lines to essentially connect dots. (It's not so much drawing 'shapes' but 'lines' that then connect to make shapes). If you make a block that you like (like a star or corn-and-beans) you can save it in the library so you don't have to re-draw it everytime you want to design a quilt with it!

It does also have built in quilts for one-block 'all-over' quilt designs using shapes like tumblers, hexagons, squares, diamonds, etc. You can adjust the size of these shapes. Then the design process wouldn't be drawing, but more coloring (which is fun!).

You can add a 'plain' block to their sketchbook just by making a new block (in whatever dimensions you want: square, rectangle) and then simply adding it to the sketchbook without drawing anything else on it. It will say something like 'Do you really want to add a plain block to the sketchbook' and then you can say OK!

Kristi, making each of my "dies" shapes/sizes and saving them would be great, if I could do that without making it into a saved 'block'. Is that possible?

I'm confused on what exactly you are asking. Are you wanting to know if you can draw (connect the dots)just the shape of your Accuquilt dies? You can, but I'd assume you'd want to draw an actual block with multiple pieces to use those die shapes and that means drawing out (or pulling one from the block library)an entire block--but you can use the shapes in those settings. It's pretty easy to resize now too.
