I used the White vinegar probably couple of cups . Through two washings. Worked for me.

Just did this last weekend - Dh has some cotton/linen out in the garage with mildewed leather. Washed once with one cup of vinegar in cold water, better but still a faint smell. Washed a second time with 1/2 cup baking soda and used hot water. Now no more odor.

Vinegar works for me.

Sunshine and fresh air have worked for me when nothing else has. I got a bunch of scraps and strips of fabric once that was musty. I washed it gently with vinegar and baking soda but still had a musty smell. I put them outside draped over anything I could find and even on the grass. My neighbors probably thought I had lost my mind when they saw it. Sure solved the problem and I made some beautiful quilts for donation from it.

I usually wash with vinegar. Then I fold and place in a bin with a couple fabric softener sheets, place the cover on the bin, and when ready to use it smells fresh and clean.

Follow tessagin's plan. Vinegar works wonders.

I've had great results with fabrics & a sewing machine tote bag I thought impossible. Soak over night with Borax, then washed with generous vinegar rise. We buy white vinegar by the big jugs at big box stores, use it often for cleaning. Inexpensive.
I thought the sewing machine tote bag would be ruined soaking it & putting thru the wash but I couldn't use like it was, so was very happy when it came out like new.

I have had excellent results usung Arm and Hammer, had to wash mounds of US Marine Corps/boy smells when grandson came home from Afghanistan. These were awful AND had been packed up for weeks!!

I would put a gallon of vinegar or maybe two gallons with some cold water in the washer and let it sit there for a day. Or maybe two or three days. Vinegar works wonders.

I just put baking soda in the wash thingy and vinegar in the rinse thingy and turn on the machine.
delicate cool, cool rinse. dry cool to warm
