At least I think this is what is doing it.
This is really good quality fabric, and was bought five months ago.
The reason I think it is the starch, is bc it is only on the 'wrong' side of fabric.
I don't like to put my iron on the 'right' side, so I press from the back.
It has been in the dark, on top of other clean fabrics, so no transfer there, and it was folded, wrong side in.
Now wondering if any of my other fabrics that I washed ahead of time and pressed, might be doing this. I sure hope not. I'm afraid to look.

Have you tried maybe rewashing the fabric?

I have never had fabric turn yellow on me but....I only store my fabric in air tight containers and even then I cross my fingers and pray. I once read that Silverfish (a little bug) loves to eat on fabrics that have been starched and pressed then stored!

I hope the starch did not discolor all your fabric.

I bought Kona Cotton SNOW WHITE fabric (three yards) the other day, got it home and it almost looks like a cream, but then when I cut the blocks the size I need them and they are away from the yardage, it turns to white again! How crazy!

I have scorched starch. Heavy-handed as I am, it turned darker than yellow.

Was it spray starch? That is the only kind that has scorched for me. With all the additives these days, I think it's quite possible that the starch yellowed on its own over time. If so, it should wash out. All of my scorches did (except a few that scorched the fabric along with the starch).

I get waxy specks sometimes if I'm a bit heavy with the spray but they scrape off with my finger nail. I don't think anythings has ever stained though. Is it the same brand you always use? Maybe switch brands? Hope it washes out C. :? :D

Sounds like you slightly "overcooked" the starch when you ironed it. It should wash out. I wash all my fabric prior to storing, and mostly don't iron it 'til I use it. If I do iron it and I'm storing it, I don't starch it. Apparently, silverfish and related pests absolutely love to eat starch (and the fabric it's on), they really love books too, not just the paper, it's the glue in the bindings that attracts them, the paper, like fabric is an extra so to speak. Hope all is good after a quick wash!

I have had this happen to me, but I am a bit remiss in changing my ironing board cover. It gets a build up of starch and it does scortch. It does wash out.

idont starch i use sizing dont know if it would make a difference or not

Actually, some of it was Magic Sizing, and some was, hmmm, a regular brand of starch...the name escapes me right now.
I am thinking, it will wash out, but, oh my goodness...how many yards of fabric am I needing to rewash???? :shock: THUD!!!

Slow & steady wins the race.... a yard today & a yard on next washday.... and on and on..... :) it'll be well worth it in the end!
