evolution

It took a while - but now -

I can look at many geometric blocks and figure out how they are done -
I can choose colors other than shown on the pattern -
I can change the block sizes -

It 's very empowering and liberating!

Yes, it is a lot of fun. There are a lot of patterns out there that are made with not the best selection of fabrics. I love to find a pattern with good bones and really make it bright since I do a lot of charity quilts for kids. Enjoy the knowledge you have found !!

I always did your second and third things. It took awhile for the first one.
It is great, isn't it?

Good for you, makes quilting more fun, doesn't it?

I agree it is very empowering to have the skills mentioned!

I wish more Beginning Quilting classes taught the student how to "find the block" and how to deconstruct that block so they could resize it and make it their own. Lots fewer $10-12 patterns would be collected, stored, never used if the quilter could do this on her own. Years later I have had beginning students come back to me and thank me for that one thing in my classes; I've always taught this way and am SO grateful I learned this way.

Congratulations cause I'm still working on the 2nd and 3rd ones and can't even imagine the first one yet. ;)

I can make a quilt from a photo, but I have to deconstruct the blocks and then graph it out. That's just how I do it. I was never one to take shortcuts in algebra, geometry or statistics either. I just have to go through the whole process.
