Just got my VISA bill from the Florida trip. My fat quarters that were reasonably priced in the U.S at 2.25 cost me over 3.00 Canadian. I think I'll wait awhile before I do any mail ordering! :( :(

OH well the selection was great and the trip was lovely and I have LOTS of fabric to keep me happy!

Still a bargain - here in BC, most FQs go for $4.50-$5.00.

I pay 4.50 - 5.49 per fat quarter here. Did you stock up on lots of pretty ones mamagus?

Just remember, if you love the fabric the price was right. I will pay more for something I fall in love with.

OUCH :!: You might want to think about traveler's checks for the next trip.

ok....I'm kinda dumb, about a lot of things  but to narrow it down...if you use your charge card here is the USA, when you get your bill the amounts are changed to your money rates??
I am still in shock what some of you ladies have to pay for fabric :( Is everything that much more than we pay here is US or is it just certain things?
If you order material from a quilt shop here and have it sent to you and you charge it, let me get this straight....the amount does not show up as US dollars it shows up at the exchange rate for your country then they charge you shipping, then do you have to pay anything extra when it arrives in your country? How do any of you afford to sew??

I live in NY but go to Montreal often because is the closest big city. Depending on where the american dollar is compared to the canadian, it may or may not be worth it. If I pay cash I change money to Canadian before I go. If you pay with credit card, the charges are changed to the currency where the card is issued and if the canadian dollar is weaker, the conversion is to the disadvantage of canadians. Like mamagus said in the first post, if she paid $2.50 in US, her credit card makes sure that she pays what is worth in canadian, which may be $3.00 depending on the day.

I like to use cash when the rate is the same.

I'm going to visit family in Germany in June and I plan NOT to look at the bills for the reason you mentioned. I'd rather remember how much fun I had. :D

What part of Germany are you heading to? The prices there are about $35 CDN/meter..... Most of the fabrics are US made so not really an ideal place to shop for them...... I bought fabrics that were made in Germany WESTPHALEN.....they're actually produced for the "costumes"of the areas.....

Mad quilter I lived in Germany for 6 yrs and loved their fabric selections but wow expensive! Have fun though!
