I see the Thangles packages in the quilt stores and have heard others mention that they use Thangles and indicated they really liked them. But, I've never tried. Do you use them? If so, do you like them? What have you made with them?

maryb119 02-06-2011 05:45 PM

Yes I use them and yes, I like them. You get HST that are very accurate and that are fast and easy to make. It's a win/win thing!

sewwhat85 02-06-2011 05:49 PM

i will have to give those a try

LucyInTheSky 02-06-2011 05:50 PM

I liked them, but didn't love them. I had issues with everything lying flat the way I wanted it to. I prefer the ones that you iron on, then sew over the solid lines, cut on the dashed (or vice versa, they tell you which), and then you have your HST. Can't remember what those are called.......

Like the thangles, different LQS offer a "buck a block" with it. You pay one dollar each month and receive a BOM Kit.

I've done a couple of those, enjoyed it a lot.

Sorry, I have not heard of "thangles", what are they? Thanks,

Dee Dee 02-06-2011 06:43 PM

So, how do you decide what Thangles package to get? Do you read a pattern and buy a package with Thangles for the size HST in your pattern? Or are the Thangles a pattern themselves?

You can print out your own HST paper at this site.

A google search will show you several other places online that you can do this at.

Thanks so much for this info and link! It would certainly save some $$$ to print your own.

thanks for the pattern link

gellybean402 02-06-2011 07:22 PM

I have used them and love them! They have come with a BOM kits from a LQS. It says on the package what size finished HST it makes and what size strips are in the package. The one I am using right now is a BOM and it is 2.75" strips which make 2.25" finished HST's.
I love the idea that you can print your own. Thanks for that tip!

I like to work with thangles. My HST turn out acurate. I have done a sampler quilt with them, have another in the package and am doing a buck a block with them also.

Triangulations is a computer program that lets you print any size templates. They work very well for me and I use it all the time.

Dee Dee 02-07-2011 05:09 PM

Where do you find that program?

I got mine at my LQS, but BearPawProductions.com has the program.

I love working with them.

Stitchnripper 02-07-2011 05:54 PM

I used them once for 1 1/2" blocks. I guess they worked okay, but I'm going to try another method next time.

Dee Dee 02-13-2011 02:25 PM

Do you think the HST are more accurate with Thangles than without?

Any time I have used them, the HST are very accurate. They stabilize the bias when you stitch diagonally. Yes, I think the HST are more accurate using them.
