Expert advice needed
 

Hi, I am new at quilting. So I decided to start with denim rag quilts.....So here is where I need all you expert quilters help....I want to make a quilt for a christmas present and I have looked everywhere for New York Yankee flannel material. No luck finding any. All I can find in the thick mirco fleece material. So I was wondering if on the side where I am using the denim blocks could I use the micro fleece with the denim and on the other side use the other material flannel and cotton??? Does anyone have any ideas/tips that will help me??? thank you so much. I have learned so much from reading all the different ideas on here...

You will only find MLB fabric in fleece. MLB will not allow any mill to make a cotton or flannel fabric. If you find it, it will be over 5 years old. Not sure why they are being that way. I even tried to find bandanas without success.

If you have your heart set on making a rag quilt, the problem with using fleece is that it will not fray. You might consider making your top out of denim pieces and piece it just like a regular quilt top and use the fleece as your backing. That would make a really nice cozy quilt.

If you made a quilt with fleece you would have to do all seams out and the cut to look frayed. I would do the same as Chester Bunny put fleece on the back of a quilt.

If I just had to have Yankees fabric, I'd use the fleece for that back and not the front. Fleece is knitted and will never rag out like the denim, but wouldn't be so conspicuous if on the back adn the "rag" was the inside of 4 layers.
