Extension Sewing Table DIY
Hello! I'm thinking about getting a piece of acrylic cut to use for a sewing extension table, but I'm stumped on what to use for legs and how to attach them. Does anyone have experience with this project?

Take a look at the Sewsteady acrylic tables and see if it is worthwhile to make your own.

My extension tables have a tube for the legs and a long screw that goes thru a rubber thing and up thru the tube and screws into the acrylic. The screw can be used to level the table. I would have the place cutting your table to drill the screw holes. (They don't go thru just enough to attach the legs.)

I think it's possible to make one similar to theirs--but a lot bigger for a lot less money. Maybe...?

This sounds like a great venture. Keep us posted on your progress.

I used dowels attached with double stick tape on one I made years ago.

Here are few DIY table extensions. You might find info in them for what you are wanting to do. I just "googled" how to make your own sewing machine extension table and found these & lots more. There are also you-tubes available to watch.

I bought the sew steady extension table. I had it made for a certain machine. After I bought a new machine I had to have the hole cut bigger for the machine. By luck we knew a man that cut that hole with a water jet. It fits perfectly. I doubt many people would know how to do that.

You can buy the feet that are used on the tables. Look on the site and replacement parts.
One thing to check is the heigh or length of the adjustable screw. It can be wobbly if you have them extended all the way. In other words, add some allowance for strength. |
