I was (drooling) at my Pfaff dealer today. She told me about something to make free motion quilting better. It's called Fab-U-Motion, and is supposedly a stitch regulator, and a 'ball bearing' surface that helps the fabric glide easier. I hope I've described it accurately. It sounded awesome, but it's pricey. For my machine 2036, it runs about $600, for the newer ones with larger throats it's $1000.
Anyone out there have one, or tried it? I am considering upgrading but wonder if this would be another option.

I think it works well, but you are still limited by the throat size of your machine.

i tried it and when i used their sample (small quilt sandwich) it worked wonderfully.

i went back the next day with a 60x60 quilt and it was terrible.

the platform is too small for such a large quilt, it weighed it down - making it hard to move around.

i played with it for over 2 hours and i could never get it to work properly - even the owner (who is a 35 year experienced quilter) could do a feather with it.

needless to say i walk out and didn't buy it.

it would be great for small projects (wall hangings) and quilt as you go blocks.

I have the pamphlet in front of me and was wondering about this to, so thanks for the post, if it is that expensive I would expect a lot more out of it, so i guess I won't be buying one in the near future

I've tried out the one for Husqvarna, and like mentioned above, the samples worked fine, but anything larger, not so much fun. The way it worked is you have a platform with an opening where you place your hands, but once you've stitched within that opening space you have to stop, and totally reposition the platform and start your stitching over. I think it's wonderful in theory & great for small projects but it wasn't worth the $$. Actually the one I tried was approx. $1500 Cdn.

I have one for my Viking. Used it exactly 3 hours then shoved it under the bed. Hated it!! Works great if all you're quilting is a doll quilt; anything larger doesn't work. It's a very expensive toe-stubber everytime I get in bed.

Thank you all for your input. This was what I was thinking, and it seemed like it would be more hassle than it's worth. I really appreciate knowing that if I have a question I can jump on here and get such immediate answers!
