I have seen Fab U Motion fabric movers for both Pfaff and Husky machines. Does anyone know anything about them? would they work on any other machines? If you have one - does it work and do you like it?

They have them for Viking also.
I dont have one and from other posts some have a problem with the size of the hole.
They now make one with a larger hole.
I tried one at the quilt show and it worked great on a small piece of quilt.
On a large quilt it could be a problem.
It comes with a stitch regulator which is very nice.

thank you. that's very informative. i have a viking so i wondered what that was. do you have that ?

No I dont have one, leary of how it would handle a big quilt.
They are not cheap either over $400.

it looks like a heavy quilt would cause it to drag. i think it might be designed for individual blocks. i thought of that myself.
and it looks like the regulator is a separate purchase.

I got to use the Fab-u-Motion at a Sit and Sew week sponsored by our local Pfaff & Viking dealer. It's WONDERFUL! It makes free motion quilting a dream! It's really easy to guide the quilt and sew whatever design you want - either with a design you've marked or one you're 'winging.' You can go as fast or slow as you want, because the stitch regulator adjusts for speed, and the stitch is always the same size. As for the size of the 'hole', the quilt is NOT in a hoop - it lies ON TOP of the regulator. Trust me - it works. When you finish an area of quilting, you move the quilt and start sewing in the next area. You can leave the needle down if you're continuing a pattern, or finish off and start in a new spot. I ALMOST bought one on the spot, but I couldn't justify it to myself, having just bought my embroidery machine!

As far as a big quilt making it hard - it's no worse than it would be to wrestle with a quilt WITHOUT the Fab-u-Motion! Anyone who does free motion quilting learns how to support the weight of the quilt so it doesn't pull on the needle.

I think they're about to come out with a new version, because the local dealer told me she was told she can't order any more of the current model. The current model sells for $400, down from the original $700 or so. It'll be interesting to see the bells and whistles on the next model. I'm waiting to buy one until it comes out. Your local dealer will be happy to let you try the current one out, because they want to sell them before the new one comes out!
