Ok, I was going thru my very small stash to see what I had in fabric. Since I am making a rag jean quilt out of our old jeans (gads that was alot of cutting) and have more than enough for the top and then some.

I was looking for bottom material. Something I bought way back was like 4 or 5 yards of heavy jersey. Could I use this without using a interface or stablizer? Since it is a rag quilt and sandwich together, I am not putting in batting.

I hope to use the excess jean material to make a doggie rag quilt so do not want to use it for the bottom.

I have no answer that would help because I ahve never made a rag quilt but would love to see the picture when it is done. It sounds great!

The blue jean quilt I made I didn't use a backing just ragged one layer of the denim. One layer made a very heavy quilt. I staggered the seams so I would have rags on the front and back.

I've seen them done with flannel for the backing. Looked like large squares cut out of men's shirts.

No kidding, you won't need batting or you'll never be able to lift it and small children might get smothered :D

I am wondering if the jersey isn't going to sag, and when you use interfacing that's going to add another layer.

The jersey won't fray.

Never thought about the jersey not fraying. Guess I will just make it without.

Here's what I did on my jean quilt. I used cotton on the back and in between I used flannel... I wanted it to fray more..and to me it doesn't make it alot heavier.. only warmer (I'm always cold)

Gads I am right there with you on the always colder part. I grew up in FL so if it is not 80 I am cold.

Right now I am cutting the jean pieces straight. I have to use more pressure on some pieces than others and go back over again when the RC does not go all the way thru. I have alot of cutting at least 4 days worth. :shock:

I uses flannel for most of the backings for rag quilts. Kids and sdults love this combination.
