Fabric back side
Do any of you ever put the wrong side up when piecing scrappies? I do, and like the results. This is random and not too many are close to the others.
Yes, since making many watercolors quilts, I do use the back of the fabric. I also wanted a variety in the shade of a tonal on an orange peel quilt in progress and I reversed some of the fabrics.

:thumbup:Affirmative!

The saying is, you paid for both sides, so you can use them both.
I did that a lot in my Asian Log Cabin quilt that I just posted in pictures yesterday. On the light values, the right side was too dark but the wrong side was perfect!
not only on scrappies, but planned also. i did it here http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...r-t275337.html

Yes, I'm using the back side of fabric for the background in a quilt -- the front side is too bright, the backside is nicely muted. When I have done this in other quilts I've been asked where I bought the fabric! I often shop for fabric by looking at the backside.
I pay for both sides of my fabric and use both sides as needed to achieve my final project.
With scrappiest sometimes I do it on purpose, some times by accident. Either way, I never fret about it.
Truthfully, I have never done it. But, I think it would be a perfect companion to the front. Right?

I made a wall hanging of a puppy at the beach. The beach sand, and the doggie bones are the same fabric reversed. I had a load of fun with this.
Yes I do and like the results. It is also a good way to use up fabric.
Yes I use the backside of fabrics, no reason not to.

I do too... it is a great way to get a softer look or a muted color... rather than what the right side of fabric offers.
I find that many times the back of the fabric is nicer than the front. Love this idea.

Yes - a lot

Think of it this way. Using either side can double the range of your stash options!
Oh yea, gives you another option.

I love the comments that remind us we purchased both sides of the fabric. Clever......and YES I have used the backside on purpose and also by accident. LOL The accident was left alone because it's a tone and tone and only I can find it, and besides it wasn't noticed until I had well passed that piece on a Grandmothers Flower Garden I'm hand piecing. Remember only God makes perfect.

Years ago, I found the perfect pansy fabric at JoAnn's. I purchased it and several coordinating prints to make a quilt for my youngest daughter. When I brought it home, I realized that the pansy fabric had been folded right sides together and then rolled onto the bolt. I still used the backside. I liked the softer look better.
Guilty here, too.

I used the back of the fabric in my officers challenge a couple of years ago. We were given an ugly FQ to use in a wall hanging. The back of the fabric was a good green color and I used mostly the back. After I convinced people that it was actually the challenge fabric, mine won the challenge.

As one quilt teacher told the group, "We pay for 2 sides to the fabric, so we can use both sides if needed." I have used the back side of some fabrics in quilts and I made one full size quilt with a fairly large border, and I reversed the fabric as it looked better with the quilt, so instead of a black border, I had a charcoal grey and it worked out well.
Yes - I do it all the time, gives more variety in value and color.
