ok, I am tired, so the brain is shutting down already today..

If I need 1.5 yards of regular width fabric, then how much would I need if the fabric was 108" wide?

Are you just looking at square inches??? 1.5 yards (54 inches) of 42" fabric would be 2268 square inches.
2268 square inches of 108 wide fabric would be 21 inches.
So if you are going to use it to piece, you would need a bit over half a yard. I'd go for 3/4 yard.

that is what I needed to know....it is cheaper to buy the wide fabric right now at thousandsofbolts.com

Do you just want the actual square inches of material or do you have to accomodate some special cutting for your quilt. Ex: Triangles, squares, rectangles, or others of a certain size?

nothing special, just trying to buy the right amount of wide vs regular fabric...
