So many of us want to get on with the sewing and quilting, so of course we want to have perfect cuts - quick and fast. I had the accuquilt fabric cutter and the handle jammed, my die was stuck with fabric and mat, I was only cutting 4 layers of fabric.
The store replaced the machine - they contacted accuquilt regarding my ruined die, mat and the wasted fabric, they wanted some compensation for me. Accuquilt refused to answer the store! So I lost out there. Instead of using the new Accuquilt I sold it. Bought the new Sizzix Big Shot pro Quiters fabric cutter, it is quite amazing, so much stronger and really sturdy, it cuts 10 layers of fabric like butter! I can use all my accuquilt dies, they need a shim to compensate for the smaller size of accuquilt. I love the big strip dies and the 2.5 square and 3.5 square, they cut 60 or more squares in one crank of the handle ---- you have that OMG! reaction.
so I am happy to use my accuquilt dies and all my accuquilt patterns, and I follow the accuquilt tips and videos.
I wanted to share as I know there are so many women out there who are thinking it is their fault the handle jams -- for using say 6 layers of fabric at a time - and it is really the manufacturers fault.
I imagine the problem with no stock of dies and machines in the last two months is all tied up with these problems they are having, they have crazy sales -- which is great to take advantage off, but makes me nervous as to why they are under cutting all the distributors. by the way this store have great information on all fabric cutters and they also have an awesome sale on them all right now. www.stitchintheditch.com

Did the shim come with the cutter?

I still love my Alto's QuiltCut2. Less expensive, easier to store, and does what I want it to. It does angles beautifully too.

If I wanted a particular die cut shape I might ask the LQS owner or a friend with an accuquilt if I could pay for time of use/rent it.

Ali, our LQS does that. Not sure how much it costs though.

no, got it separate, some use thin cardboard, just got to compensate for the difference in thickness, when it is right the cut is perfect. You just have to practice, I am waiting for the shims to arrive, but have used my accuquilt dies and they work just had to get my head around what I needed to do.

some of the LQS have the big studio and it is very strong, if you do not want to have your own this is a good way to go. I enjoy having the convenience of my fabric cutter at home.

always good to have another opinion and a few ideas before you commit. Now that there are options out there we should all check them out before investing - I bought the Accuquilt because it was the best at the time, now there are choices and I am glad I could get rid of the accuquilt and get a better machine
