Fabric Depot in Portland OR

BOY oh BOY oh BOY!! We are on our trip out west with family members and my SIL and I got 1 hour to spend at Fabric Depot!! OH my, we could have spent a day there. Many of you have bought from their online site I know. If you ever get the chance to go to the retail store in Portland do so. AND, they had everything in the store at 25% off. They did say that the online and retail stores run different specials.:thumbup::thumbup:

I live in Oregon and have been to Fabric Depot. It's the great quilt shop that we have here. They have every fabric that you need. If you can't find it somewhere else, call Fabric Depot because they will have it!

Another Oregonian that is spoiled to be able to visit Fabric Depot.
Sorry that you ONLY got to stay one short hour. :(

I agree, and hour barely give you time to see everything, I've been there dozens of times and even so give myself 2 hours :)
A good reason to return!

sounds like the perfect stop on a trip!

I can't imagine being limited to 1 hour on your first visit, especially at sale time! I live about an hour away from Portland and have been there many times. It is awesome! You can go to their website and get the coupons for the sales: www.fabricdepot.com

Fabric Depot is the Mother Ship, hee hee. I have to tell you a wonderful story about FD.

Last year, they learned they were one of several businesses affected by a security breach in the company they were using to process credit card payments. EVERYONE who had shopped their store online and used a credit card at the time that this breach occurred was sent an apologetic letter, which gave information about the security breach, what to do to protect your identity, and what FD was doing to prevent this from ever happening again. The letter also included a code for 30% off the total amount of your next purchase, PLUS a pack of fat quarters, PLUS a $10 gift card, good for your next purchase.

I was amazed at this response. I have been notified by other entities of possible identity theft, but never this quickly after the breach was found, and never with this amount of concern and consideration for me, the customer. I took my code in last Friday and went shopping. I was informed that my coupon was in addition to the 35% off sale they already had going - yippee! I purchased 12.5 yards of cotton, 12 yards of rick-rack, and a quilt pattern for less than $90. As the clerk was ringing up my purchase, I mentioned that this was a fast and impressive response from FD and that I had received a similar notification from the State of California, but not until a full year after their systems had been breached. The clerk told me that FD's owner had been horrified and mortified that the breach had occurred, and had immediately fired the company FD had hired to process the credit cards. You can't always prevent bad people from doing bad things, but the way FD has handled it and treated their customers has definitely made me a fan for life.

In addition to great fabric, their supplies buyer is great and buys from all kinds of interesting sources for sewing supplies. They had things I rarely ever see. NICE.

I took the train to the closest stop and walked to the store. Doable but not with a huge amount of purchases.

I'm so happy to be living near Fabric Depot (but not near enough!) Maybe it's time for another trip in that direction...

Hi all, we only had an hour cause our hubbies too pity on us!!! Actually by the time we got cut and processed out it was closer to 1 1/2 hour. But we had 6 other people waiting on us so we were glad to get the time we did. !! They have a comfy waiting area with things to read and a tv so the waiters were OK.

It is so big that I get overwhelmed in there and usually don't buy anything. I do agree that one hour is not very much time to see everything. Have fun in Oregon. It is a little cold in my part of central Oregon.

We go to Portland every couple of years but so far I haven't made it to Fabric Depot. It's definitely on my list for the next trip.

My son took me to Fabric Depot when I visited him in Portland. It's wonderful and I've done a lot of shopping on line since the visit. They have a wonderful selection of extra-wide backing fabric if you prefer not to piece the backs of your quilt. The last piece I ordered was a gorgeous red and the fabric was so lovely and hefty that I saved every scrap.

I also live in Oregon but on the other side of the state so I've only been there a couple times. But when I was there I was there for hours!

Glad you had the opportunity to enjoy one of Oregon's many treasures. Note: NO SALES TAX I also live within an hour of Portland and try to stay below $200.

Ok, my sister lives in Keizer, Oregon. I'm 6 hours south of her. I bet I can talk her into going there next time I go up to visit her! What side of Portland is the store on?

frustratedquilter40 04-16-2013 09:45 PM

Live near Portland and have been there many times it is a very dangerous place ( fabric lovers heaven ) I try to avoid going there because it is so easy to go crazy in there :o

SE. Their address is 700 SE 122nd, corner of 122nd and Stark, it's maybe half a mile west of I-205.

I don't live very far away, so I'm there often.....maybe a little too often! ;) And one hour, is way too little time to spend there. Maybe you'll get a chance to visit again and take your time. :)

I live about 10 blocks from Fabric Depot and have to drive by their signs reading 35%off, 25% off, etc and I could probably go in every time but manage to control my urges...usually. All online purchases are usually discounted pretty good too. I can't believe the new stuff I find every time!
