am really trying to work on all the projects I have already purchased all the fabric for. Want to reduce my stash and finish what I have at home now.

Annaquilts 01-26-2011 06:49 AM

I don't like diets and am not good at it. Spending less but buying from other peoples stash and good sales. I did buy several new rulers for certain techniques and blocks. I buy almost no patterns. Like others mentioned there are many free patterns online never mind pattterns in older magazines and books you can find used or might still have at home. It seems I have a mind of my own anyways and end up designing patterns myself.

mountain deb 01-26-2011 06:57 AM

Thank goodness that is only temporary or is it an urban legend?

lillybeck 01-26-2011 07:02 AM

I too am on a fabric diet but there are so many patterns and ideas on here and on the net that I would never buy a book. I will have to use every little scrap I have before I can do anything else.

rexie 01-26-2011 07:32 AM

I can't afford to go on a fabric diet. The cost of fabric is going up, up, up and I have to buy cheap, cheap, cheap.

Quiltbeagle 01-26-2011 07:44 AM

I'm on a fabric diet so switched to low-cost quilt makings this time around...went to a local church thrift store and got a whole shopping bag crammed full of 100% cotton shirts (plaid and shirtings) for a buck. Less than half the price of just one fat quarter!

mrsmail 01-26-2011 07:48 AM

No matter how hard I try, I fall off the wagon and purchase a little more.

craftymatt2 01-26-2011 08:07 AM

I hadn't bought fabric or patterns in quite some time, but since joining this board thats all I do now. I see everything everyone else is doing and it stirred me up. I don't know what i will do with all my patterns, but when i die my kids sure will be ticked off. Revenge, its so sweet when you can tick your kids off.

Good thing there are folks like you to keep the LQS going :)

You all sound like me! I have a prayer hanging in my office that goes: So far today, I have been so good. I have not gossiped, haven't lost my temper, haven't been greedy, grumpy, nasty, selfish or over indulgent. I am very thankful for that. But in a few minutes, Lord, I am going to get out of bed. From then on, I'm probably going to need a lot more help. Maybe we should add buying fabric to that list!

dianewine 01-26-2011 08:40 AM

I am on an all I can find for almost nothing diet. I am just getting started and I have so many ideas and I want to make so many quilts, I just cant wait to get started. I hope to be able to get a quilt done soon so I can post a pic of it. Enjoy your day and keep up the great work!!

catrancher 01-26-2011 09:11 AM

Now I'm buying thread.

pinebeltquilter 01-26-2011 09:48 AM

I put myself on a fabric right after I spent my $100.00 gift cert. my daughters gave me to my local QS, then today, I went to the same QS for an x-small yoyo maker, and guess what? She had a table of Moda for 25% off and I came home with a collection of "Simpler Time" fabric---beautiful!!! Oh well, I can start my diet February.

IBQUILTIN 01-26-2011 11:04 AM

I do believe in the miracle of the loaves and fishes even more now. I am SURE that, as I use my strips for quilts, the pile multiplies because it never goes down. What a blessing!!

reginalovesfabric 01-26-2011 12:32 PM

fabric diet, what a cruel choice of two words and not in my volcabuary....

Mariah 01-26-2011 12:35 PM

"I'm on a fabric diet because my husband things I should make some of the projects I have started. He is right, and I am working on it!!
Your quilted piece in your avatar is beautiful. Did you get the pattern online?
Have a good day!
Mariah.

Those two words don't belong side by side, unlike Chocolate & peanut butter !! :-D or Caramel, or or or do you get the drift how well diets go over in this household , LOL
So many ways to use up the pretties without a huge investment, and many great ideas from the board!! :)

Pat

HaHa how does that happen?

I'm on a fabric diet - so that's all I eat (purchase) !

I love buying books--quilting as well as novels-but as someone stated you can get many free patterns on line.

Have you ever checked out Jodi Barrows...she writes books and incorporates quilts and quilt history in her novels.

I'm on a fabric diet, so I spend more effort participating in Charm Swaps, Block Swaps, and give-aways.

Scissor Queen 01-26-2011 03:19 PM

just buy a little bit once in a while so I don't go into severe withdrawal.

Prettiptibbs 01-26-2011 03:22 PM

So I try to use what I have on hand, sometimes changing the colorway of my project. I also piece my backings and bindings. But as we all know with diets, you can only stay on for so long before the "urge" overwhelms you!

HaHa how does that happen?

I think it is like DH's old cars. They multiply when we aren't looking

I hate the word diet. That is any kind of diet.....

klgreene 01-26-2011 04:59 PM

I'm on a fabric diet, so I'm making miniatures and still getting my fill.

That is exactly what I did. The last thing I bought was an Accuquilt Go. Got most of the dies except the applique ones. And the expense of that was it!!!! I got all my scraps out, sorted them, ironed them and am working on a system. Bonnie is great! Never liked scrap quilts much and don't know if I can be a true scrapper. But her quilts are awesome. I would have to have some control with color. DH retires first of next year so my fabric buying days are at an end. It would be nice if I could just outlive the fabric I have, ha,ha. Never happen. At least I have a granddaughter that I have planted a seed in. She made a queen size for herself when she was 16. So guess who's gettin all my stuff. Lucky girl............

qltnmom 01-26-2011 05:02 PM

I am on a fabric diet, so I just placed an order with Hancocks of Paducah for some of their sale fabric. LOL

jeanneb52 01-26-2011 05:12 PM

I go on fabric diets allll the time. Who am I kidding?

Welcome to the board. The one thing I wish I had done was designate whatever I bought for a certain quilt but I was so anxious to get a stash going..........went berserk for 5 years. In the poor house now. Glad DH is retiring next year so I can stop the madness..........

penski 01-26-2011 05:26 PM

i never do diets !!!!!!

I think I will just go to a "lean" diet, buy just a little here and there and let the chocolate go :D:D:D

I had to laugh when I read this one! When Linens and Things were closing, I bought some things discounted and low and behold at the check out line was the famous brand chocolates. Discounted at that! The bag stayed right here next to my sewing machines and computer, and somehow got buried in some of my "organized" stash. Time went by and when I finally rediscovered it I felt like I had hit gold!

As for fabric diet; I have managed to stay out of Joann's, Hancock's, Hobby Lobby for awhile. Only LQS and WalMart have supplied me lately to get through projects. And, went into Joann's last night to get snaps, had 50% coupon so bought 12.5 x 12.5 square Omnigrid ruler. No fabric! BUT I did look!

You can always send her my way!

I'm on a fabric diet so I am working solely from my stash---made 4 baby quilt tops in the last 5 days!

Sounds like a GREAT idea, cuz I'm on the fabric diet too and chocolate keeps finding its way to my house! :-o

chris_quilts 01-26-2011 07:21 PM

On the diet, I haven't bought much fabric but I have bought b/c we all need neutrals for piecing. Oh yeah, also have purchased 4 vintage sewing machines. DH says buy fabric, it's easier to store (and hide)! :)
