Do you have any of the blue left? I'm thinking that a light binding would get dirty faster, while the pink/red binding blends in too much and doesn't make a frame.
The pink. I did a white binding once and it simply looked weird.
If you have enough of the blue solid, that would look good, too. One of the stripes would look great, too. |
I would also go with the dark pink to match border and back. Will also show dirt less over time than the light binding.
I like the light one too.
I find that if I use the same color for the binding as the back, I have a hard time distinguishing the binding from the back when I'm sewing it on. I made a quilt using similar colors and used a white binding that had polka dots the same colors as the inside of the quilt.
I prefer the dark binding as I focus on the quilt more.
I held my hand over each side and preferred the dark one. I noticed the overall quilt when looking at it. When I looked at the light one my eye was immediate drawn to the light inner border and not the pieced squares.
The pink calms the quilt, while returning to the light makes it more jumpy and energetic. The light pulls the eye away from the center and there's nothing that makes you focus on any part of it. While I am looking at the pink side I see the inner design. What do you want people to see?
Side note: I have A Fib which means my heart sometimes flutters instead of beats. Stress and other things can throw my rhythm out. When I focus on the side with the white binding, it literally tries to throw my heart into A Fib. I have almost always done the binding on my quilts with the last fabric used or a very calming darker fabric. Now I know why. |
I like the dark, it seems to frame the design of the quilt and to me the light pulls the eye away from the quilt kind of confusing it all.
I'd use the dark simply because white edges will get dirty and be more noticeable of discoloration as time goes by.
