I have fallen in love with a couple of quilts shown on this board made with the FABRIC FLING pattern. I have tried, unsuccessfully, to find the pattern. Does anyone, out there, happen to know where I might find it.........Thanks, Kaye

Fabric Fling pattern?

Hi All, some of you have PM'd me - here's my condensed version.

I don't know where you can find the pattern, but after studying the quilt, I think I can explain the pattern to you.

cut 1 1/2" strips of all your fabrics.
Next sew in random order 8 strips end to end and cut out as many 9" x 9" pieces as you can from the strip. You will need an even number of blocks and will use 2 per finished block.
Next. Cut the 9" sq. blocks in half on the diagonal.

Look at the quilt on the board and place the 4 pieces so they look like the quilt block. Make as many you need to the size quilt you want to have.

I'd make one strip set and cut 4 and see if it's a size you can work with. If not adjust strips accordingly. SO - Whatever height your strip set comes out to, then cut you blocks that size.


Then make the sashing and borders.

This looks like a very easy quilt that can be made fairly quickly.

Do you have a picture? Sounds like a fun quilt to make.

Ck the search boards it was posted yesterday or today by the gal that made it, she gave the directions on how she did hers.

if you google on "fabric fling" quilt pattern (include the quotation marks) you'll find vendors who offer the version of the pattern you have to pay for.

it's a string quilt. they've been around since who-knows-when. free instructions are available on the internet using a variety of methods. one can be found here:

the post for instructions was deleted, I see that the shop/store (only 2 messages posted and both are in re: to this particular pattern)that carries the pattern has posted on this thread I wonder if that had anything to do with deleting the posted instructions by the original gal. If you will notice

there's been some confusion regarding copyrights issues, so some surgical editing has been done to head off problems. there are several threads going on now about this particular pattern, so i'm getting dizzy trying to keep up. :lol:

"Fabric Fling" is the title of a pattern/instructions written and published by a specific author for sale on the commercial market.

sooooo any efforts to "reproduce" or to "restate" the instructions as written by this author using that title are a copyrights no-no.

even though this block is not unique, and the layout can be found all over the place going back uncounted years, the author no doubt invested a great deal of her time and energy writing and illustrating her version of the instructions, arranging for publication, marketing, advertising, etc.

we need to respect her efforts and investment, and her legal right to determin proper use of her pattern by not pirating or paraphrasing the results or by "borrowing" her title for the quilt(s) produced from her instructions.

I totally respect someones efforts to make a living, but realistically all you have to do is look at the quilt and it isn't that hard to make.

Am I the only one cringing from all those bias edges?

I think I would have to stay stitch (a bit to each side of the diagonal) before cutting those squares in half.

I'm a newbie. Where is the 'board" you mention? Not good at finding things on Message board.

I think what they are referring to as the "Board" is this site or forum, the Quilter's Message Board or Quilting Board.
