Fabric frames for quilting
 

New to quilting- I have a brother Nv1800Q machine. Is there a fabric frame that my machine is compatable with?

Do you mean a quilting frame? Not sure what you mean by fabric frame...?

Yes - but they appear to be referred to as fabric frames

Is there a site you’re looking at? I’ve never heard of a fabric frame before.

Welcome to the board and the wide world of quilting! Is ok, so many terms that seem interchangeable from the outside but get us thinking in some different directions.

I looked up your model of machine, I think that you will get better mileage by not using a frame due to what we call the "throat" or "bed" or other names of the machine too.

You can still do free motion quilting on that model, the difference is that the machine stays still and you move the quilt. I personally do better with a long arm, where I move the head of the machine and the quilt stays put.

I had to look up your machine. You can put just about any machine on a frame, but I think the problem you're going to run into is that the harp - the open space between the needle and the right side of the machine - is fairly small. When the quilt is advanced onto the frame, it's wound around a bar that fits in this open area. You'll be restricted to smaller quilts. I started with a Brother 1500, which a harp size of 9 inches, and I really struggled.

Check out names such as Handi Quilter, Grace, and Juki. My frame was a New Joy, but I don't know if it's still available for sale, and it was too lightweight and flimsy. I had to be really careful when quilting towards myself because the entire frame would tip over.
